Maybe it's just me, but every time I pull my trailer into the gas station to fill the boat up on my way to the lake, it seems like it takes forever to fill up the tank. The stupid sensor on the pump always wants to shut off the flow every 3 or so gallons. I don't know if it's the higher angle of the boat filler neck while the boat is on the trailer or what, but it's super annoying. Occasionally you'll get a pump like this when pumping gas for your vehicle, but it seems like it happens to me every time when filling up the boat. Anybody else have this problem?

Edited to fix my 4 typos!

I have that issue as well. I figured out that I have to barely put the nozzle and then listen for the gas to get higher. I've never had it splash out that way luckily. I've read where some folks just put the nozzle in and leave it pumping just like a car. I can't do that.

Had the same thing with my previous boat (SX190) and it drove me nuts. Would have to slowly put gas in to keep from clicking off. Don’t know why it does it but got a AR210 and don’t have any issues thank goodness.

Have you tried to slow the rate of filling? Sounds like your boats fuel tank isn’t vented very well.

Have you checked to make sure that:
  1. The filler hose doesnt have a kink in it
  2. The vent hose doesn't have a kink in it
  3. The vent hose doesn't have some sort of obstruction (wasp nest etc).
You will want to get in under the port side seat to check the above.

No issues so far either at a marina dock or gas pump with our 2020 SX195.

I have the same problem filling up at the fuel dock. I’ve tried holding the nozzle at all different angles and inserting at different depths to no avail. In listening to it fill, I do hear it gurgle up to the nozzle, so I think it is stopping appropriately. My guess is that the tank isn’t venting well enough to allow the displaced air out. The screen on the vent by the tank does have some calcium build up so I was going to try cleaning it, but I will just try to replace it as I found a new one on eBay for $10.

I tried this today on my way to fill up before heading out fishing with a friend, and slowing the fill rate at the pump helped. Just takes longer to fill up. My boat is a new 2020 that's only been out 6 - 7 times, but I may check @Julian 's suggestion. If there's a kinked hose that's preventing proper venting, it had to have come from Yamaha that way. Thanks for the suggestions.

Mine doesn’t do this thank goodness. I have a 2015 SX210. Best of luck getting it fixed as I’m sure it’s annoying.

Slowing down the pump rate seems to do the trick but when your filling a 50 gallon tank-UGH!

I guessamaite how many gallons I burned up and at about 5 gallons before topping off, slow the pumping speed down.

No issues here, runs full blast into the tank and shuts itself off. I’d make the dealer look at it.

Has anyone tried adjusting the vent next to the fill cap?

I noticed the center part of mine was loose enough to spin freely. I tightened it up (finger tight), and I have noticed the pump more often shuts off prematurely since then. I haven't remembered to try to loosen it again before filling up, so I'd say it's purely anecdotal evidence right now. Also, that is fuelling up on the water, so there may be more uncontrolled variables involved there.
