Hey everyone! New boater here, and just went through my first 5 hour break in period with my new ar240. I noticed there were some metal and plastic shavings when I took the drain plug out yesterday. No water came out, but there was a wet muck of plastic shavings and some metal shavings.

Is this normal? I can't think of why there would be any in there, unless from the manufacturing process.

Did anyone else find this on their new boat?

Thanks for the help,

Bryan

Welcome Aboard Bryan. . . . It's more then likely remnants of the manufacturing process. I wouldn't be too worried.

Done be surprised if you find screws and other things. I think if they drop a screw they just get another. I even found the cutouts for my pissers in there.

I have metal shavings (like from when you dill into metal) coming out my drain plug hole the 2nd time out with my new boat. It really freaked me out until I realized what it was.

Yup....perfectly normal...pity they don't clean that crap out better...but not big deal in the grand scheme of things. I did notice on my boat that they put the plug in while all that crap was there, and the plug wasn't in fully. I took a hose and washed it out some and then fully inserted the drain plug.

There is a thread somewhere on here documenting the crazy stuff that has been dug out of the bilge.

Had the same thing happen to our new 242X-e. The bad thing is the metal shavings fell on the launch ramp. picked up what we could.

I just found the same fodder in my bung holes. Picked out as much as I could with me fingers and put the plugs in. I probably should take the hose to it tomorrow when we get back home. Bouy 144 is reporting 1.5 meter seas. Tis but a ripple! If it's like that tomorrow, it'll be a bay day.
