Mussel Inspection Nightmare

No boating on Tahoe for me. I was already a week behind schedule in my move, so I flew back alone to go through the inspection without my family. As soon as it was done, I hit the road for home.

Wait, why are mussels frowned upon there? Are they not native to the area? Mussels are like water filters and actually help improve water quality. It's only when non-native are mixed into other mussels native environment when things get to be an issue for host fish and such. We used to pick and play with mussels all the time as a kid in the same river water I boat in today.

Confiscating your boat is BS. No way I could live in a "state" that thinks they can do what they want when they want to your own private property.

Scarab, if it helps, you didn't miss much. haha. I've jet ski'd and boated on Lake Tahoe. The water is super cold, there's no smooth water, and there are rules for everything like I don't think you're even allowed to get in the water in Emerald Bay. Like I said already, I doubt I'll ever bother bringing my boat to Lake Tahoe.

If you wanted to experience a Northern California lake, there's at least a dozen others that would have been a lot more fun to stop at. Ones like Bullards Bar, where you can see the bottom clear and clean even when it's 15 feet deep. Or Don Pedro, where there's a hundred little coves to hide and ski in. Or even the Delta or the SF Bay, unique experiences in their own way.

Not sure about there but in MN when we talk about the “mussel problems” in our lakes we are talking about Zebra Mussels and they are an invasive species here - originally native to Russia.

I'm headed up there on Friday morning, it's part of our weekend seeing Dave Mathews at Harvey's and boating. I just spent 2.5 hrs cleaning every compartment on the boat. This is after my wife and I spent 5 hours cleaning before we went out on it last time. I wiped down the anchor and inside anchor cabinet, re laid the rope inside very nicely (300ft) with my small box anchor. I always lay out my line to dry, so today I just wrapped them up really nicely and arranged every cabinet with minimal stuff and made sure it was clean and dry. I wiped out the entire engine compartment floor. I sprayed and wiped down my entire trailer. There's no debris on the inside or outside of the boat. I took the tube off and all ropes for towing people. I even wiped out the entire mid/front ballast bag area with a dry towel. I shop vac'd inside the drain plug from inside the hull to clean out any debris. I'll put it like this, my boat is really freakin clean and dry. Definitely better than new. I look forward to seeing how the inspection goes. I do have 3 ballast bags that will have to be deacon'd.

Believe it or not the inspection process in south lake was sooooo pleasant. Very nice ladies. Took 300-45 while training someone. Props to the girls.
More better pics to come.
