Apologize in advance for these questions. You all have been so helpful in my search and now my '18 242X is in my driveway. I will post some pics and purchase story soon. She's a beauty.

Noob questions that will help me get a jump start on my learning come tomorrow morning (I have only turned on electric and messed with the connect screen):

1.) Boat has been in a showroom and batteries are low. Getting a low battery warning. Do I run the engines to charge the batteries and is it OK to run the engines for extended time while on the trailer? - I am familiar with oil change process and the hose to run water...can I assume that is necessary?
2.) I have figured out the battery switches, obviously, and the key...what else do I need to do before pushing engine start to fire up the engines?
3.) I get an engine maintenance alarm warning when turning the power on...I assume a routine thing but what do I need to do to stop it for now?

Thanks all.

Absolutely necessary to connect the water. Step 1 Start Engine Step 2 run the water (DO NOT RUN WATER BEFORE U START ENGINE). Turning off process is Step 1 TURN WATER OFF Step 2 Turn engine off. THIS IS A MUST DO or you could get water in your engine.
2.) I have figured out the battery switches, obviously, and the key...what else do I need to do before pushing engine start to fire up the engines? See above reply and make sure both battery is on. Buy a trickle charger so you do not have to start the boat to charge battery, it maybe a very long time to get it charged completely and you dont want it running like that. ALso what you can do is if you get it to start, take it out to a lake and boat for an hour or so to charge, this is after you figure out the maintenance issue.
3.) I get an engine maintenance alarm warning when turning the power on...I assume a routine thing but what do I need to do to stop it for now? Check the oil if its clean, then they forgot to reset the maintenance warning. I would check and replace all spark plug too if necessary. But my personal preference if I purchased anything used. I always change oil and spark plug regardless of condition.

Thanks all.
See my reply and congrats on new boat. ALso please check your manual if you have it or download from yamaha website.

I would put those batteries on a trickle charger. Not a good idea to run the boat out of the water for an extended period (unless you have awesome hose water pressure). These boats don't like low batteries, so I'd install a 2 bank on board charger asap.

Just remember in order:
Start engine, start water.
Water off, engine off

Can somebody recommend a nice trickle charger for the 242x - ideally on amazon?

I’m sure others will chime in with additional recommendations or links to other threads on chargers, but from reading around the forum I decided to go with NOCO. They have all kinds of variations to match your battery type, desired charging speed, and number of batteries. I got this one:

NOCO Genius GENPRO10X2, 2-Bank,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08G3LLZ3D?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

You can get several alarms from low battery power. #1 for the trickle charger, I wouldn’t run it that long on a hose.
and if the batteries are 3 years old, I would replace them.

I have the same boat as you (2018 242x), and I second the recommendation for the ProMariner charger. The batteries are still original in my boat (3 years old) and maintain a perfect charge, so I attribute that to the ProMariner. Of note, the charger stopped working about a year ago. A couple emails later to their customer service department and a brand new charger was on its way to my house. It’s a rare experience to have that kind of customer service these days. I highly recommend it.

I've had a couple of Noco Genius products and they're really nice, I'll second that recommendation. If you only need to maintain one battery, this one is a great deal: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07W6B987...olid=28RN84DSK1TFR&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

I am surprised that someone has not offered a 12v valve and relay that would prevent flooding of the motors. The valve would need to be triggered by engine rpm or something related to the motor actually running. Maybe a project for @JetBoatPilot

thank you all. On the way.

Huh that makes alot of sense. I am sure they will sell like hotcakes fast.

Probably would want one that is normally open, the normally closed one I believe requires to be energized to stay open, I believe. Also I would think it would be wise to be able to wire them up to some LED toggle switches so you know when they are closed at the helm. The problem though I would think is if you don't have any power in the boat or global power failure you would still need to clamp off.

Just some musing on it.

You'd want it to be normally/fail closed so you didn't lose an engine. And to only open when the engine is running.

I am not sure I would really want it fail close, imho. If something is wrong with it or the circuit then I could run the engine with it closed, which is bad. I want to purposefully shut it, since it would be a rare occasion that it is used if ever. Also if it fails, and my engine is fine, then I have to go an cut it off or do something to be able to use that engine.

Dunno, just thinking through it, my logic may be flawed though. Perhaps something more manual with a way to show which position it is in, open or closed via a dashboard LED or something.
