Very happy with my @Ridesteady.
We are delighted you have found your way to the best Jet Boaters Forum on the internet! Please consider Signing Up so that you can enjoy all the features and offers on the forum. We have members with boats from all the major manufacturers including Yamaha, Seadoo, Scarab and Chaparral. We don't email you SPAM, and the site is totally non-commercial. So what's to lose? IT IS FREE!
Membership allows you to ask questions (no matter how mundane), meet up with other jet boaters, see full images (not just thumbnails), browse the member map and qualifies you for members only discounts offered by vendors who run specials for our members only! (It also gets rid of this banner!)
That was my though on post number 2. How can you have electric control over something that is mechanical without have a mechanical linkage (servo)With no intent to stir the pot....
Those boats with a cable driven air intake like mine (08 SX230) cannot drive by wire without additional hardware. I'd love to be proven wrong, but reality is that for the boat to change speed a physical thing will need to move the throttle plate, or bypass it. I just don't see how that can be done without a Servo. No computer alone can do this without growing robot fingers to push the throttle plate open to go faster, or some less Sci-Fi way of accomplishing this.
Expecting something else is dreaming.
Again, as always, will be happy to be proven wrong.
You just gave them their next alliteration of perfect passWith no knob, you don’t get the usability of Ridesteady. It really does make changing the speed and navigating the menu system so much quicker and easier. That’s “acknowledged” by our competition through their set speed steps. Because repeatedly pushing buttons is so much slower, they “speed up” the process by only allowing 0.2-0.3 MPH set speed increments. For example, if you’re surfing at 10.0 MPH and want to bump it up to 10.1 MPH to get the perfect wave, with Ridesteady you would just rotate the 32-position optical encoder knob forward one detent. With our competition, 10.2 would be the closest you could get with their push button scheme, then 10.5 MPH. Navigating the menus, changing users, etc., all suffer similar disadvantages with push buttons.
With no “RPM” readout on the display, that likely means they don’t have a way to bring in the RPM. Which means no RPM mode or engine synchronization, both of which have been fairly well received by our customers.
Of course, that's how it all (should) work.
What gets me riled up is something else, @JetBoatPilot using his self-portrayal as a super swell dude and everyone JBP best friend here, when in fact he is just another shady-marketing, over-promising, under-delivering salesman.
The taste in my mouth just went sour... Sounds like you made the right choice not to get involved. That certainly seems to be the case, and there's plenty to back it up.
@JetBoatPilot and his business partner approached us to try to get us to sell through their website. We didn't see a lot of upside to that, and a fair amount of downside. Later, his business partner approached us again, offering to promote Ridesteady in one of their YouTube videos in exchange for a Ridesteady unit. This was in Feburary, 2018.
We sent the unit right away to them, but that video they promised...never came. Not even a year later. They proceeded to use Ridesteady on their boat to test their TVW product, make videos, etc. After follow up emails went unanswered, I called JBP and he called me back, saying something to the effect that he couldn't release any videos unless we agreed to sell our Ridesteady product through them. After declining his "offer" the second time was when he threatened making his own speed control, getting Perfectpass to compete, etc.
We've had several customers who've told us that @JetBoatPilot was saying how great our system was compared to Perfectpass, before we declined his sales offer the second time. Suddenly our competition is now claimed to be the best.
Furthermore, you can plainly see Ridesteady being used in his recent TVW test video on facebook. I wonder if any product testing at all has been done by the company claiming its technically superior. What is he basing this on?
I don't know @JetBoatPilot personally. But based off our experience, I would be quite leery of any claims he puts forward.
Did he send it back? I would probably be sending him a bill if not. That certainly seems to be the case, and there's plenty to back it up.

No, we wrote it off the books as "stolen merchandise". To be honest, I didn't want to bring more drama to this board that's had its fair share already. But when false claims start getting thrown around, I thought it necessary to let everyone know the genesis of this product launch.Did he send it back? I would probably be sending him a bill if not.

Yes. SeaDek kits for Yamaha. Best in business. IMOIs there anything his company sells that is top of the line.

Well, JBP designed the templates and production line. Those are excellent and you could not touch the price for the quality.I met products he makes my bad lol.
I know not everyone believes in Lateral Thrusters but for me they are the bomb and I wouldn't have a jet boat without them. But the 2019 boat nozzles rendered them obsolete. Two weeks ago if you wrote this people on here would be up in fucking arms. Now since someone called him out on his beta testing procedures folks are starting to see the light. Is there anything his company sells that is top of the line.
Good point, but you know what they say - “physics doesn’t care what you believe”. The LTs scrub significant amount of strait reverse thrust, by design. I know of several people who found it out the hard way. Great around the docks but when you, for example, launch off a shallow ramp you may need all of your reverse to be there.I know not everyone believes in Lateral Thrusters
Can you bolt those up to old boats? If the budget allows this off season I'd like to replace as much of my pumps/bearings/impellers/driveshaft as possible.Good point, but you know what they say - “physics doesn’t care what you believe”. Me, at this point I would go with the redesigned Yamaha OEM pumps, no question.

I know you always say this but I did not find this to be true at all. The thrusters don't grab any of the reverse stream when steering is straight. An argument could be made I suppose that the device physically clips a small top part of the reverse jet stream just as a fact of where it is mounted but the amount it blocks when looking at it visually would seem to be negligible and in reality I did not find any difference in straight reverse power. Its a tough thing to prove though and a bit subjective. Does the awesomeness of how it works in maneuvering the boat bias me?... ok perhaps - in the end I don't mind agreeing to disagree on this. The LTs scrub significant amount of strait reverse thrust, by design

It wouldn’t be simple, as the shafts and impellers are different. The Venturi nuzzles and reverse buckets are similar, as so I think is the wear ring but may not line up given a different shaft. Can you bolt those up to old boats?
