Port engine overheating. Nothing in the impeller. Cool water out of the pee hole. It would seem to right itself but progressively getting worse. It sat for 5 hours and overheated In 2 minutes. 1st day of vacation! Any thoughts?

Does the engine actually get very hot? If there is no obvious difference in engine temps after start between the two engines, when the port throws an overheat, it would indicate a faulty sensor - temp or termostat?

If you feel you need immediate assistance, use "@ help" (no space), that will page several senior members who volunteer to be "on call" for such on the water emergencies.

It does go into limp mode but no actual signs of overheating other than the gauge.

That definitely sounds like a thermo sensor issue.
Swapping those between the engines helped in some cases. Do you have a service manual?
@Cobra Jet Steering LLC would know that stuff, and there may be an entry in the FAQ section?

I'm also leaning towards a sensor issue and swapping them would be a quick check. What kind of water do you boat in? If salt do you flush regularly? Do you beach your boat or run in the shallows where you can ingest sand/silt? Regardless you may want to try flushing your engines several times. I've flushed with CLR on ocassion with good results.

@Sackman71 attempted to post the following (but entered it as a report on the post by accident):

Yes. It was not the thermo sensor. It was a bad thermo switch. Located on the back side of the block. There back ordered at Yamaha. I found one on Ebay. Thanks for the help. Back on the water.
