Not sure trying to find a place now to stay.. I don't want to go all the way to the key west.. do u know of any good places to stay?

MIL used to have a condo on Key Colony Beach - just off Marathon. This was a good spot as it is in the middle of the keys.

We stayed in a duplex in key colony in marathon last year.. Very reasonable. Seems everything in key colony is a duplex and right on a canal. Great location. I believe it was thru vrbo.

Sombrero Reef off Marathon is a great place to snorkel. Here is a decent website with things to do on Marathon and different Keys, http://www.fla-keys.com/marathon/.
One time while in Marathon is was late and we just pulled into a place off US1 , Banana Bay Resort, http://bananabay.com/. It was going through a renovation but unfortunately we got an old room, very 1970ish, the new rooms looked much better. The nice thing is they had a marina that we could launch and dock the boat. From what I remember it was reasonably priced.
In Key Largo, John Pennekamp State Park is a nice place to launch your boat and some more great snorkeling, http://www.fla-keys.com/news/news.cfm?sid=7579 . If in Key Largo, stop at the Holiday Inn and visit the African Queen which is docked on the canal right next to the hotel, http://africanqueenflkeys.com/
