Practical Suggestions for Yamaha

I've a very practical suggestion for @Yamaha , an easily rectified, bad design on their behalf.
RELOCATE THE FLUSHING VALVES!!!

Come on Yamaha, how hard can it be to re-program the CNC machine to cut the hole an inch or two higher, I've checked, there's room, you show us a video how precise and marvellous it is. How long is my vinyl going to last with every time I flush I have to force the pipe onto the seat cushion.

Hinged seat cushions. I think the newer 24' have them, so hopefully that will trickle down to the smaller models. I would pay good money for a kit that I could install to hinge the seats on my 192.

Sweet Picture!

They need a true surf option. Other jet boat manufacturers offer a surf option. Although it is not perfect at least it is an attempt. The new 242X does not offer this but has the same price as many V-drive boats. Even I/Os are getting into the game! What is it going to take?

Check the e series out for yamaha. 1400 lbs ballast? Put on a wake wedge perhaps?

I think the graphics department need to be woken up, non tower models are very bland IMO. We had three colour choices before, but with introducing new models, which is good, there seems to be a reduction in choice.

I agree with you about the graphics options. That said, I think you have one of the better looking boats.

Yamaha has made a concerted effort to improve the boats through the years. My first experience was with my '08 SX230. I did some serious lighting and stereo mods to that boat, along with GPS chart plotter and it seems another dozen things that had me climbing in the compartments and under the clean out tray. The amount of raw fiberglass in that boat compared to my '12 SX240 is remarkable. They have really cleaned up the build and made it a much more finished product. I would have to agree with relocation service items and making it easy to get to them, i.e....flush ports. They have made progress on the clean out plugs (manhole covers) as well, and more refinement could really be a home run. For instance, just mill a lock pin that snaps through like the cobra locks...unless the patent prohibits it. The connex system complicates many of the things we all like to do to our boats, such as better stereos and chart plotters. A universal output and room for a screen could be a simple as an app and a waterproof cover for an iPad with interface to the full functions of the system. It could interface charts, systems, diagnostics, and more. There is a better solution to this issue.

Yamaha has built all round "sport" boats for years. I don't think venturing into purpose built boats is in their chain of thoughts, should it be? My thinking is an all around boat that offers more of everything is a better selling boat. But if it were possible to make this boat perform as good as a purpose built boat, I think they would. Marketing is everything in selling. That articulating keel is a marketing item to help sell boats to those fearful about control problems. Anyone can drive these boats without any fin or keel...add some winds and waves, and any boat becomes hard to handle. I think the idea of joystick control would be awesome. But I am guessing that would add a great deal of change and cost to the boats. Instead of that, why not incorporate a better rub rail into the boat, and actually protect it, so you can keep from dinging it so easily. And while doing that, the rub rail should protect the aft edge and corners of the swim deck! I would like to see them direct the exhaust into the water instead of above it, it would do a great deal to quiet the boats I would think.

Overall, the fabric upgrades could continue to help as would the continued improvement in fit and finish.

I'm not really in the market for a purpose built surf or wake boat, but those that are double them up as their runabouts and such. It's not as if you can't use them for other activities. I don't think it would be unwise for Yamaha to go into that territory.

I would categorize Yamaha as a jack of all trades, master of none for watersports. That's probably not the label you want if you are dropping 70k+ on a boat, but it's certainly a big value at 50k and you don't plan on getting really serious in one particular sport.

Let's also not forget that these are toys and luxuries, so they also serve to stroke our egos to some degree. It's not all about practicality. There is a market that just wants the biggest and baddest regardless of their ability.

1. I like the flush ports higher, or even putting them under the engine hatch, and possibly one port for both engines.
2. Lower the cut out between the rear deck and the cabin area of the boat, we dont use the seating right there and a lower "step thru" or even it out with the rear deck area would be alot easier to go between.
3. I also like the idea of inflate deflate air pump built in that is accesible from the rear deck.
4. Fly by wire throttles with a one button auto sync.
5. Hinged seats with gas struts
6. More detail on engines gages on the dash such as individual engine temp, oil presser, hour meters, battery condition, ect ect
7. I also agree with better finder tie offs, Yamaha should line up a couple of boats and figure out the best place and then insall tie offs
8. Make the wet storeage deeper.
9. I also like the engine disconnect to the impeller to free rope, debis ect ect
10. Built in usb stuff, cell chargers ect ect
11. A dimmer for the rocker switches, those are so bright at night i have to cover them up so i dont mess up my night vision
12. I have a 2012 SX 210, love it, but the passenger seat is higher then the helm seat. they need to be the same hight, my buddies heads are above the windsheild
Im sure i will think of more I'll post them later.

#4 is already available on the E-Series boats. The new 24' boats have hinged seats (no gas struts needed). #12-so you want height adjustable seats? The reason the captain's chair on the port side is higher is to see over the changing/storage room.

Really Julian? I cant post my 2 cents? The more times somthing is mentioned maybe the more Mother Yamaha will look into it.

Absolutely want you to post your 2 cents!!!!! Just want to be sure that other members/guests know that the 2016 models did deliver on some of these items.

My bad

I don't understand the reason behind it, but I for one can't stand the different heights on the passenger's chairs on the SX210 and 212ss. I think it sticks out like a sore thumb on those boats. I would rather just have bench seating than 2 chairs that sit at different heights.

I think the snap on bow cover could be improved.
The current design allows all the water that hits the windshield (or cockpit cover on top of the windshield) to flow down under the bow cover.
If the bow cover was made a bit longer it could snap onto the studs on the windshield. Use gypsy studs (double studs) on the rear of the bow cover so the cockpit cover could snap onto the same location. This way the water would roll off the cockpit cover onto the bow cover instead of under it.
By raising the attachment point of the cover, I think it would improve the runoff of the water as well.

Hey bud I know this is an old thread but I wanted to pass along a trick that I use to not abuse my seat cushions. I plug a large shut off valve into a Yamaha flush hose. It lets me get the hose into place before even turning on the engine and lets me quickly turn it off, while being thin enough to not damage our seat cushions.
