question for those who wet slip their boats

The time for me to sign a lease on a slip is quickly approaching and not sure which size slip I want to go with. I have to choose by end of month because the guy I am buying a lift from needs the lift moved from his dock. The two options are a 10'x25', or a 12'x30'. I wanted to go with a bigger slip such as the 12'x30', but for one it is $530 more annually. Also, if I go with the 12' wide slip, it is going to cost me another $500 to adapt my lift for a wider slip. For those who wet slip their 24' boats, what size slip are you in? Any complaints on being in a slip that is roughly the same length as the boat? I wanted the extra length for more coverage, but is it worth $1,000 more upfront, and then $500 more a year?

Not sure what the rules are at your marina but in my area people with longer slips often build a storage or seating area in the excess length.

yes, I have seen this done. Sounds cool if you actually hang out there and use it. We have friends at this marina with large cruisers so we may be hanging out there more often. I am going to go look at the slips again and try to see some 24' boats in a 25' slip.

I'm not sure on how our lift will work, but with a 10' wide slip and a 8.5' wide boat, that's a tight fit. I wet slip my boat in the lake in the summer and always have to walk the boat into and out of the 10' wide slip. With a 12' wide slip, you may be able to pull in/out of the slip and your lift may fit better.

Mine is in a 25'×22' (2 boat slip)....I have no issue with the length.

At my marina there is a pretty huge jump as you go up in size, plus availability is limited, so I'm in a 10x24, with a 6600 lb Hydrohoist. I had a 25-foot Sea-Ray bow-rider (8'6" beam) in there, and honestly wasn't a problem. The swim platform hung out the back a foot or 18" depending on how I positioned it.

The boat I have ordered is 22'3", so will fit better, but honestly it's not much of a problem having the boat the same length as the slip. You just have to get it all the way up in there before lifting. Would bigger be better? Of course, but it's all about money, lol.

To me - it depends if the slip is covered. If covered, I would go with 30', but if not - you could make either size work.

My slip is 10x20 and works just fine with my Hydrohoist lift.

The marina we were at last year uses the double slip method as does the one we will be at this year. Last years marinas' slips were advertised as 20', however the docks construction included "knee bracing" or triangles that brace slip to main dock reducing our useable slip length. It was a problem when we pulled in forward, could not board from rear or reach the ratchet for the cover. Backing in solved the problem to a point. The dock ended short of the front cleat, could not reach cleat from dock, which was not really an issue. The bow and forward spring line were the last to connect and my wife would hand them to me. As i could not reach them without the boat hook.Never had a problem backing in even in windy conditions. I have not used a lift with this boat YET, I have with the Whaler.

The slips I am looking at are covered. At 25' that gives me 1' to work with and boat will be right at edge of roof edge. The nice thing about the 30' is I have a few extra feet of coverage. The boat will be on a lift because more than likely the boat will be in the water from end of February to October/November. I may leave it there year round, not sure yet.
