Another day of testing.
Included in the testing menu: the redesigned "surf tab" (aka the beast) attachments, a new "surf flap" shape - shorter and strait-cut, and a bunch of ballast configurations - up to ~4,000lbs total.
On and off the river, a beautiful day.
Verdict:
The new version of flap works best it ever had - I guess it needs to be shorter and strait-cut, apparently. I'm ready for the wake wedge, at this point I think it will be the right move.
The idea of delayed convergence is great, but it just does not seem to work well with the yammies. I'm giving up on the beast (wake surf tabs) and any other kind of delayed convergence gizmos, unless I see some promising looking results. I had a small improvement with less ballast, but it was not surfable anyway - so who cares.
On days like yesterday - I'm (almost) kicking myself for letting a nice 2009 232LS go when I was shopping last year (@Bruce - do you hear me? lol). Those new keeled 24' hulls have MANY advantages, but surfing attributes are not among them.
I think the new 212s are more forgiving, but that is a different discussion.
And yes, I had ENOUGH ballast... At some point I had the entire stereo remote under water. It did fine, BTW, but I had it practically sealed with lithium grease.
