The official "What did you do to your jet boat today" thread.

Another day of testing.

Included in the testing menu: the redesigned "surf tab" (aka the beast) attachments, a new "surf flap" shape - shorter and strait-cut, and a bunch of ballast configurations - up to ~4,000lbs total.

On and off the river, a beautiful day.

Verdict:
The new version of flap works best it ever had - I guess it needs to be shorter and strait-cut, apparently. I'm ready for the wake wedge, at this point I think it will be the right move.
The idea of delayed convergence is great, but it just does not seem to work well with the yammies. I'm giving up on the beast (wake surf tabs) and any other kind of delayed convergence gizmos, unless I see some promising looking results. I had a small improvement with less ballast, but it was not surfable anyway - so who cares.

On days like yesterday - I'm (almost) kicking myself for letting a nice 2009 232LS go when I was shopping last year (@Bruce - do you hear me? lol). Those new keeled 24' hulls have MANY advantages, but surfing attributes are not among them.
I think the new 212s are more forgiving, but that is a different discussion.

And yes, I had ENOUGH ballast... At some point I had the entire stereo remote under water. It did fine, BTW, but I had it practically sealed with lithium grease.

let me know how you like the ramp and clamp.. thats something i have been wanting to do but just never have.

Pulled the boat out of the water because the weather would not cooperate and allow a dry day. So while back at the arena, I did some much needed maintenance, I removed the leaky ski locker seal and replace it with a new one, I also adjusted the latch to remove play in the door while latched. 20170605_100848.jpg20170605_165148.jpg The fuel hatch seal is next.20170605_163739.jpgAlso finished the boat name graphic install20170604_173219.jpgby adding the orange maple leaves. Now we need sun.

Where did you get the seals @zipper ? I've replaced one floor storage seal with a seal from Lowe's, but it was a little higher than what came off. And I'm looking to replace my floor (fuel) seal. Was gonna hit Lowes again.

@ToddW850 I ordered from Yamaha Sports Plaza. The part numbers are on the bags in pics to right. This is the fuel hatch#20170606_165856.jpgand this is ski locker#20170606_170501.jpgThose are numbers for my 23'.

I installed a new Handle on my tower mirror as well as new trailer guide covers and secured the stock and stowed Bimini to the tower with some bundee cords.

Finally, June 10, 2017 and I get it out of indoor storage, drag it to beach. "De-winterize," add a stainless scupper; new head unit added - sounds great even without an amp with the Polk speakers, waxed and ready to go out on maybe 5 times this summer....hmmm all kids headed to college end of July is it time to sell??? Hard to believe an 08 almost looks showroom. Oh, that's right is was purchased brand new in 2011 so it's really only 6 years old!

finished the 2 amp install, Polk speakers sound so good I'm thinking about returning the sub. I have 4 kicker tower speaker to wire up still. the mounting brackeds are not threaded right and I can't tighten the down. replaced the nav lights up front with LEDs. even got help running wires from the cat.

Which Polks?

Well I finally completed one of the tasks I started 2 years ago... thats right I finally installed the STBD tow valve. I had to remove the muffler to gain access to it and what prompted all of this was my safety switch for the Port engine keeps coming loose. Turns out the nut is cracked so McMaster happens to have brass 5/8-18 nuts and I ordered a pack to replace the plastic ones with. I figured since I had to have the rear panel open I would finish what I started. Now it is nice to have permanent tow valves should the reason ever arise to need them. What I also remembered was that a few of the screws were stripped from the factory and instead of just enlarging the holes to a #10, I decided to order in rivet nuts from McMaster, they are aluminum threaded inserts and I ordered 8-32 Truss Head machine screws which is exactly what is in there from the factory just switching from a sheet metal screw to a machine screw. I will use some vasoline or marine grease on every screw to prevent galling. I still have my rod holders to install as well as my ballast switch so I can just fill the port ballast when surfing but I am shelving that project as I think I am going to redesign the whole ballast system for surfing and replace the existing bags, pump etc. and get the water pick ups on the bottom of the hull so I can fill while under way.... Another thing I fixed while in there was the grab handle on the flat of the stern, not the one right at the ladder as we rarely use it however the other one is only held in with 4 #8 sheet metal screws into 1/8" fiberglass and they are starting to pull through so off to the store to purchase some #8-32 x1" stainless pan heads, a bag of stainless fender washers and a bag of nylock nuts so now if the handle is going to get pulled off, it will have to bring several square inches of boat with it.

I replaced the 4 stock speakers with JL MX650's.
makes a world of a difference. IMG_2817.JPGIMG_2818.JPG

Did you install an amp also? Im hooking up my new wet sounds xs650's this weekend without an amp until I can make up my mind about the rest of the system. Hoping for a good improvement with just the speaker upgrade

No I didn't install an amp yet. So far I love the sound improvement over stock. It's a big improvement.

I'm buying a 3rd set of MX650's today to install in the cockpit area. Most likely be buying an amp in the next few weeks.

Today, actually yesterday, USED IT.20170617_153829.jpg Because the previous 7 days and the next 7 days weather looks a lot like this.20170619_143420.jpgI know a lot of you guys in the south east have been seeing much worse.
