Thinking about installing amp in engine compartment - any issues?

They will get very hot during longer runs. Probably not ideal.

Yes heat is bad for an amp and if built right will send it into thermal shut down. If not and fused properly will keep popping fuses. If neither then may start a fire. The end result of installing an amp in the engine compartment could vary from less than ideal to oh sh*t.

Heat and potential dampness in the engine bay would make it a no for me. I installed my amp, 3 batteries, and battery charger in the bay under the rear seat on the drivers side.

Thanks for the replies. I am thinking (with less beer in me) behind the helm is best for me.
The two primary locations people are installing amps are behind the helm, or next to the batteries. My current and last boat had them by the batteries and worked fine. The only drawback to the way Yamaha installed them by the batteries is they put the controls facing away from the opening....D'Oh!!!!!
