Where do you guys get your NC DMV inspections done at. My dealer is 2 hours each way.

Never knew the trailer needed to be inspected! Most garages have signs that say if they do inspections. I have to assume they can handle trailers too.

Do trailers require an inspection? Trailer's registered in North Carolina require a Safety Inspection yearly if the combined weight of the trailer and cargo at any point exceed 4,000 pounds.

I just re-did my registration online this past weekend. The site asks whether you've completed inspection, just say yes and it'll let you go through.
BTW, how ridiculously silly is the registration website now? They make it look like you're having a chat with someone, but just ends up taking twice as long as the old site where you just fill out a form.

Get permanent tags. Cost me $90 I think but I never have to renew them.

yup all my trailers have permanent tags. Just have to pay small yearly tax on them. If you plan on keeping more than 3 years than its a better deal

Good to know you can do this on boat trailer, I have a small utility trailer with permanent tags. The boat ones were ordered by dealer... may look into changing it.

You guys are lucky, in PA I have to get my trailer inspected every year and it's a PIA because not every inspection station does trailers.

I've never had a trailer inspected in all of my life. Born and raised in NC. Second to that, I also have permanent plates on my trailers. On my jetski trailers I don't even "technically" have a plate on them. They were too low to the ground and scraped on everything, so I tossed the plates. Never been pulled over while towing a trailer, even on 95. Granted I also don't speed while towing.
