The crazy thing is that we've had our 1991 Yamaha VX for 25 years and it still runs every year, and our 2008 Yamaha VX Deluxe hasn't had a single issue since we purchased it brand new.

In my opinion you answered your dilemma right there.

I suggest you contact @ScarabMike and talk with him privately. He has a great deal of experience with the Scarab.

You mention a lawsuit.... what was the result?

I agree with @Wayloncle I think your last paragraph says it all. I'm really surprised by all the issues Scarab owners have had....I just don't think their dealers know how to maintain them, and it won't get any easier trying to keep their techs experts on multiple drivetrains.

If it were me, I'd go with a Yamaha 212X as is sounds like you like to board and ski. That will give you the tower you will want, and the room for another family.

Like everyone else here said, you answered your own question. The yamahas aren't as flashy as the scarabs, I like the look of the scarabs better then Yamaha but if it's in the shop all the time you don't get to look at it anyways. Yamahas are all Yamaha, Yamaha engines and Yamaha hull, all designed to work together and no question as to who will cover a warranty repair. Ask other people here and find a good dealer near you. There are people here who purchased a Yamaha boat a few hours away from the closest dealer knowing they wouldn't need the dealer for repairs anyways. I was with you last year before I purchased and researched everything and went with the Yamaha. My big deciding factors were all Yamaha built, clean out ports, better rear facing seats and a metal wear ring not plastic.

Digg'in the ar240. I think i am going to make the switch...

Yamaha. Time tested. Turn the key and go. Change the oil once a season. Won't even have to winterize in Florida. If in salt water? Flush EVERY TIME OUT. No matter where you boat, remove the clean out plugs after every outing. You will never have a problem.
