Hey everyone, on Aug. 29 I'm planning a trip up to Chicago along with our neighbors to do the half loop. They've seen some of the pictures i've taken and really want to follow us up in their boat. I'm curious if anyone else would be interested in coming along, the more the merrier. We will probably be at the Worth ramp around 10:00 am IL time, but I will nail that down for sure the first of next week. We're only going to do the half loop but if the lake is calm enough I'm hoping to venture out a little ways for a better view of the skyline. So if anyone is interested, come and join us.

If we lived A LOT closer we would certainly consider joining you to make it a group. Cruising the Great Loop is something that I wish to do someday.

Someday you're definitely going to have to do it. It's an awesome way to see the city.

If a full loop is New England thru Great Lakes down Mississippi, around Florida then north. What is a half loop?

No no no....
Chicago loop and great loop are different.
Chicago loop is Calumet river down to Chicago River, up through Chicago, out the locks at Navy pier, and down the lake to Calumet again.
It's a fun time!
Beautiful architecture!
Why only a half loop?
I'd be game but our company is moving shop and it's our final day of moving. I kinda have to be involved as I'm the one that actually uses the shop.... I kinda manage it, run the trucks, fix things etc..

How long does it take to do it?

Approximately 5 hours or so. It's about 65 miles up and back. A good portion of it is no wake when you get to the city. That's what adds time to it.

Why only a half loop?
My neighbor's boat is only an 18 footer and they are kind of apprehensive about going out on the lake. This will also be the first time my wife has gone and I really don't think she's interested in doing the whole loop. If it weren't for that I'd definitely be going all the way around.

Wouldn't full loop be quicker than half? No no-wake zones on the lake!
I would certainly respect the lake as it can get very rough. Don't expect glassy waters ever at all. I have seen it once, and it was gone in an hour.

Yeah, I agree that doing the full loop would probably be faster but I need to do what makes everybody comfortable. Believe me I would rather do the whole thing, but not this time.

I'm a maybe. Right now I think I will still be out of town.

Do to a good chance of bad weather this weekend. We're postponing this for Sat. 9/12.

Figures. Storms on one day for a 3 week period and it just so happens it's that day!
putting it on calendar to hopefully make it!

Yeah, we thought the same thing. Friday is only a 20% chance of rain and Sunday is 10%, but of course Saturday is 60%.

Here it comes! Who hopes to go?

I would like to do the loop cruise around chicago river someday, but unable to go this trip.

We will probably start out early and do this. How early depends on if we have the kids or not.

@Speedling @OperationROL Unfortunately, do to some things that have come up. We're not going to be able to do this trip like originally planned. If you guys still do, I hope you have a great time.

I will see you at Starved Rock though. :winkingthumbsup"

Oh SUUUURREEEEE... the guy that started the whole thing isn't going, lol
Well, if no one else is going, we may just see who we get to come with and see what they wanna do.

I know, I know. lol! :banghead:

I'm sorry I've gotta cancel but this trip has been falling apart for me from the beginning.
