port aft cleat inside.jpg get a small kid! my port side came loose and I had my 11 yr old fix it, no way could I get in there,

you probably have a false wall under the starboard seat at the rear of the compartment that comes out easily with 3 screws, then it should be a straight shot back, if you had to you could probably take off the wall of the engine compartment, I think someone did that before, either way make sure you use Loctite to make sure you don't have to do it again,
I can't remember the size of the nut but you could check it against the forward cleat in the anchor locker,

The nut is 1 1/4 inch....yes...it is one big nut! I was able to reach mine with a socket wrench from the rear storage locker access port, but your model doesn't have one of these. Not matter what you do....loctite it when you tighten it!

At 5' 11" 200 lbs I can get back there, its not pretty but I can make it. Of course I had to take the battery out. Here is a picture my wife took as I was making my out.

Thanks for the reply. My port side came loose as well and I removed the wall and had a very thin guy work his way back there to tighten it. My problem is on the starboard side with all the electrical stuff attached to the wall of the engine compartment. I've already removed the screws, but stopped once I realized the wiring was attached. It's a bit different than the the port side. I was hoping someone had the same issue i'm having with the starboard side.

If I tried to do that they would need to bring in the "jaws of life"to get me out.

@Miles

I'll try to take a closer look at mine when I get home since it's an '07 also to give you a better idea, I wouldn't think you would have to disconnect any of that wiring from the engine wall,

Did 4 of mine. 2 to go.
5' 11" 255lbs or so. It's doable.

Starboard side is even easier to access from the seat, the seat on the starboard is bigger than on the port.

My '07 doesn't have any wiring connected to the starboard engine panel, the wiring is hanging from tie points glued onto the fiberglass.

I already removed the screws from the engine wall and the wiring is keeping me from removing it from the engine compartment. I'm 6 ft 230 lbs. I will try and squeeze back there. I'll have the Fire department on standby in case I get stuck. If I get back near that cleat I'm not coming out until it's tight. Anyways. if I can remove that wall it may give me a little more light back there. Thanks for everyone's input!!

I just took another look at mine, I don't think removing the engine wall would have gained you much more than just reduce the claustrophobia factor,
If you arms are long enough I think Julian's idea of removing the cleanout tray but you would be doing it blind and hard to get Loctite on it,
with the pee hole and bilge lines I would seriously consider getting a neighbor kid to help,

glad to have you on board, Be sure to check the FAQ for lots of other great tips and be careful of the #3 spark plug breaking if you try to remove it,

I first tried to access the port and starboard cleats by removing the cleanout tray, I had no success because I couldn't contort my body enough to get full extension of my arms.

My '07 has a small panel (6" x 18") that will have to be removed at the end of the starboard storage area to gain access to the cleat, my port side also has a similar panel. It has two screws at the bottom that will need to be removed to gain access.

I'll give it try myself. If I can't get it I'll try something else. At least it made it through the season! Thanks for the input!

Darn need to do this this in the next 2 weeks (I'm 6.6 and 250 lbs). Tried it last year starboard but could not do it. No volunteers in this family. How come Yamaha uses locktite on everything else? Frustrated as hell. According to the dealer they need to cut out the swim platform. I guess all the guys there eat to many sausages aswell to fit.

what another disappoint in a Yamaha dealership, cutting your swim deck?? they don't have one person at the dealership (or relative of an employee, maybe the GM's grandkid) that could get in there for a 2 minute job, what a disappointment,

what about a neighbor or coworker with a kid?
