OK, got out this morning for a couple of hours with and old buddy from Basic Training. Our careers have crossed paths multiple times since then. Had a great time. We were, quite literally, the ONLY small boat (the only BOAT even) out on the harbour this morning.

Current sea water temp was 1.1 degrees....34 F for you southern types!

Left from Bedford Basin, tooled around a bit, headed up the mouth of the harbour, went around McNabb's Island, stopped in downtown for a coffee, then back to the basin to recover. 3 1/2 hours all told including the coffee break. Didn't use nearly as much gas as I'd figured, only about 40 liters.

Couple of things....I might have to take the boat in to get it looked at, because the Check Engine light indicator flashed on several times. I stopped, checked oil, looked in the engine bay, but don't see anything obvious. I'm wondering if it's related to the cold water?

I'll call the dealer tomorrow.

Anyhow, some pictures:

This is where my wife works:

White house in the center is my Mother in Law's place.

The Canadian Navy's new ships are being assembled here:

The MacDonald Bridge:

I've sailed on all three of these ships. Ex-HMCS Athabaskan (now de-commissioned) HMCS Charlottetown (up in the synchrolift) and HMCS Montreal, on the right.

CHA up on the lift:

King's Wharf downtown Halifax where we tied up to go ashore for a coffee.

I've got an appointment to get the bateau looked at by a guy just up the road on Tuesday morning. He's a seadoo expert, and this has a Bombardier Rotax in it, so he has the code reader, etc. We'll see what the story is.

Well, a house-call by the Rotax expert and a hookup to the boat with his magic computer told a tale of 4 fault codes, which he copied down then reset. We ran the boat for about 15 minutes and none of them came back, but it was noted that the battery voltage was a bit low. I'd charged it before we put it in the water, but I haven't had a trickle-charger hooked to it regularly, so his suggestion was to get one, hook it up and see if, with a properly maintained battery if the faults come back.

One of the fault codes was for the O2 sensor, so it might be that too, but we'll try the battery first.

Hmmm, another O2 sensor gone bad. Very common among the BRP powered boats.

I wonder if they run the motor slightly rich since they are supercharged which hen fouls out the o2 sensor?

And if that's the case it means they would benefit from performance filters or even the intercooler upgrades!

Had the boat out on the harbour again (sea water, so a good wash-down when we got home~!) and there were no faults or check engine warnings popping up.

Looks like it's the battery. I'd put it on charge for a while before heading out. Looks like a trickle-charger is required. Oh well.

On the other hand, we had a great ride tonight! COLD, but great!
