Hello, New guy here with a 2010 yamaha 242 limited s. Trying to see if anybody has a 242 tower that they are selling. I believe that the tower is the same from 2010 to 2014 but not exactly sure. Dealer wants $4k for a new tower so trying to see if i can find something for less. I bought a aftermarket tower and installed it on the boat but does not look anywhere as nice as a OEM tower and it flexes the fiberglass when we try wakeboarding.

What kind of backing did you use for the attachment points? I think the tower looks good. Don't know why it couldn't be made functional with the right install.

The tower came with backing plates so i just used those. The mounts are just too close to each other and the leverage when pulling someone up while wakeboarding makes that fiberglass flex a little bit. On the oem tower the mounts are alot more heavy duty and the fibergrass is thicker where they bolt onto the boat. I’m just too nerves about it cracking so i would rather get the correct tower and be stressfree. :D

Since you already have the holes drilled, and assuming you like the looks of what you've already spent money on, I think reinforcing that section of hull would be the far easier and more cost effective solution. Monster's own directions direct you to reinforce with extra fiberglass if you are uncertain about the structural integrity. Seems like a project that could be done even by someone without much experience since the aesthetic part is not in question due to it's location that will never be "seen." Just my $0.02.

Yea that is true but another problem is with the monster tower since it is univeral, it is really close to the windsheild if you look at the picture. And when im going fast and hitting waves sometimes the tower taps the windshield because it moves side to side. To be honest i am not a fan of aftermarket towers.

I installed an aftermarket tower on a previous boat and the “backing plates” that came with it with just large washers. I made my own plates from 1/8 inch aluminum sheet which can be cut with many common home owner tools and will bend to the form the inside of the hull when tightened down. I then epoxied them in.

In this case the windshield is an issue. I recommend reaching out to @John Mcpartland who is currently selling a 2015 ar tower for cheap and is also in Washington (The reg number on the boat in the photo suggests Washington). My guess is the part of the hull where the ar tower mounts did not change much if at all from 2010 to current. If you both take width measurements to confirm this could be a win win and a first of its kind that I would have heard of.

Good luck.

I didn't see anyone respond to your original assumption here yet, so I figured I would pipe up. The tower on these Pre 2015 models is "similar" in the fact that the 2010-2011 towers were fixed, and the 2012+ towers were removable and can be lowered. That being said, I would guess that you could put the mounts for either on a boat that has neither.

I also saw a fresh post for a 2014 Limited S tower on here too. You would just need to order the base mounts and install those.

Good luck,

Wow, that looks like it is touching the windshield already! Looks like you needed a wider aftermarket tower.
It is very close, the monster tower doesnt really fit the boat width wise. I probably could have made it fit but i wanted to use the back holes from the oem tower instead of drilling all 4 new holes. Now im just trying to stick to oem

Please write a post on this with photos. If you run into any issues like how far back from the windshield end does the tower mount and such there are plently of olks here that will be happy to help and even take photos of thiers if needed. @swatski has experience removing, installing, and modifing this tower.

That is the white tower we were talking about

when you get the 2015+ tower please make sure you put reinforcement on the fiberglass. If I were you I would lay new layers first.
PS. make sure you are a long sleeve shirt when you work inside there.
