After using the search function and reading most of the "scupper" related posts, I do not see a consensus on whether changing to a stainless steel scupper is warranted on the newer boats (I think 2015 and newer) where the scupper placement is higher , and possibly above the water line.

As such, I thought I would start this post to get the Board's consensus... Have you replaced your 2015+ scupper. If so, Why? What part did you use as a replacement? How did the process go?

OR...Did you decide against it? If so, why?

ALSO..Pros/cons... Deciding too, but waiting? Haven't made a decision yet?

What are the Board's opinions?

Great question I can’t believe they still use that thing . They did move it up higher mine is just at the water level if it did crack it looks like it could create issues if the water was rough and the boat starts rocking . It’s definitely under water when you slow down and the water washes up on the rear swim deck . The problem is it cracks and you can’t see it that makes it a hard leak to detect

It's likely underwater if you use ballast for watersports. If it's still plastic I'd replace it.

I suspect it'll be a few more years whether we know if the 2015+ boats will be an issue. Its on my list of things to do.

The older boats began having issues because the plastic scupper becomes brittle over time. I suspect this will become an issue for newer boats in a few years if they are using the same thin plastic scupper (I've not studied mine...will next time I open the bilge up!). So my vote is a definite "Maybe"....

It’s the same brand Perko . Its easy to inspect on the newer models you can remove the small inspection hatch in the clean out tray and reach in and move it up and down to see if it’s cracked. They could have been over tightening them on the older models when I replaced mine it was very tight . If siliconed properly it doesn’t need to be torqued much I could not feel any silicone on the inside and the bead on the outside looks light. This could be an area that lets water into the bilge if not installed properly

So are you saying the same stainless scupper (Atwood brand I believe) is used to replace the newer boat scuppers also?

I haven’t changed it on the 242x but I had the old perko scupper from my AR230 and they look identical so the SS Atwood should work.

I’m definitely changing mines out, after going out with the boat yesterday I noticed it’s bellow the water line at slow speeds and while anchored too. So that being said better safe then sorry, SS Attwood scupper going in.

Aloha,
Rueben

Is this an issue for 2013, and if so, anyone with a replacement part?

Rueben,

Please take some pictures and let everyone know your progress. TIA
So I’ll be ordering one in the next couple days, and will be installing as soon as I get it. My thoughts is that is a small expense, but give a great Peace of Mind and Sense of Security.

Any update Rueben?
Aloha afdouble, no I haven’t gotten it yet. It is on my things to get done ASAP. I call it my ASAP list lol. I know there hasn’t been anybody with late model 21’ or 24’ models that has a scupper valve failure, well none that I’ve found. And that’s a great thing, but I’m sure I would feel much better if I swapped it out. R u planning to do it?

Yes, I want to do it for peace of mind. I plan on a May or June install.
