I live in Florida and have a marina on the river that I can keep the boat in the water for really cheap and it's covered. But I have read some people say its bad for these boats to sit in the water. I know i would need to pull it monthly to clean the bottom. But anyone else keeps theres in the water and have any issues? Its nice to just walk on a boat and drive off. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Stay safe everyone.

Assume the water is fresh not brackish?

If so, fresh water wet slipping is fine. It will of course result in more maintenance of all exposed metal and as you say, more frequent hull cleaning.

I use to wet slip mine all year, then bought an Airdock as I got tired of cleaning the boat.

Ideally you would have shore power at the slip and an on board battery charger....

I've got a 2020 that I keep in the water up in in Lake Erie. I have found 3 leaks so far thanks to the grand skills of our Tennessee assemblyman! Keep your batteries charged and check your bilge often.

@Dumbassbass it's kind of depressing to see all of the posts on here about owners concerned with leaks on the Yamaha boats. I have owned too many boats to count (almost lol) but other than a bit (and I do mean a little bit) of bilge water I have never - ever worried that any of them would leak to the point of concern. It isn't hard to seal a boat's through hulls and rub rail, the boats have scuppers for a big rain, the boats have auto bilges (floats). Doesn't Yamaha use Sikaflex or a 3M sealant under the rub rail hull joint? Geez, is Yamaha's quality control that crappy and their engineering so inept that you guys are worried about your boats sinking or flooding the engine if you leave them in the water? I had better stop recommending Yamaha to my friends if the quality is that lousy? Yamaha now offers a lifetime hull warranty (limited) I guess that doesn't include sinking if it leaks? Sort of funny, but not!

@Thor32766.....I keep mine in fresh water. My slip is away from the slips with power (I did this deliberately) so I am far less worried about my underwater parts suffering from stray electrical currents - but - I am shocked by the comments on different threads on this forum wherein owners talk about the leaks. Never had this type of concern about a boat. I have had my 2020 SX195 in the water for a few weeks and no leaks so far.....can't believe I just typed that! I do plan on hauling it every four or five weeks to clean the hull and check the anodes and metal components. Wet slip it because I like to just remove the cockpit and bow covers and go. If I start getting leaks I'll fix them and sell it and go back to another brand that doesn't leak. I have a 5 year Yamaha factory warranty so that will make it easy to sell. Too bad for me I hadn't heard this from anyone before. Of course it's my fault - I thought I had done my homework! Live and learn!

FWIW, there are many thousands of these boats out there, and I would speculate that the overwhelming majority of people have no or only minor problems with their Yamahas. Every boat site, regardless of reputation or cost, is replete with people having problems with their boats. If you go by internet posts, you will never buy a boat, RV or a car.

This is my first boat, and I am 2.5+ years into my ownership with essentially no problems. I operate only in salt water, and my only problem to date was the failure of the compass within the first 10 hours (replaced under warranty). I have 80+ hours on the boat, and we mostly fish or anchor off a beach (all within about 30 minutes run time from the marina) - so the boat has much, much more time in the water. It is stored in an open rack with a small roof, and the only water in my bilge is a little rain water (maybe up to a quart, probably closer to a pint) after torrential downpours or days of steady rain. The water does not even come out until the forklift tilts back and moves forward.

I wet slip my boat all summer in a MN lake and have had no issues. The mooring cover fits great, is easy to put on from the dock and keeps the rain out.

@WBeads ......up-date regarding Yamaha leaks - what leaks? Before we headed out today I used a strong led flashlight to look in the engine bilge and the compartment under the rear swim platform. There was no sign of water anywhere. After a couple of hours boating I looked again with the flashlight in the same areas - absolutely no water- maybe a bit of condensation but no (knock on wood) water! The boat has been at our slip for three weeks without any signs of water intrusion. Maybe we're just lucky- boat built on a Wednesday? LOL - I'll take that! :) We stopped in the lee of an island in a nice cove with a sand bottom in about 4 feet of water. I put on my shorty wet suit and scuba mask and using a medium bristle wash brush I scrubbed the entire hull. I also checked the underwater metal components for any signs of galvanic activity and there were none. I underwater videoed the hull for reference. We find the trailering cover a pain to put on so we bought Yamaha cockpit and bow covers and they are a breeze to use! Bottom line three weeks in the water and all's good. Very happy with that because for us it is soooo much easier to keep it at the dock! Cheers....MT

I've had mine in the water for 4 weeks now. No issues at all. Have pulled it out 3 times now to clean the bottom. What can I say I'm a clean freak. This is the first boat I've ever kept in the water ( owned 10). Have to admit it's super convenient and we're using the boat much more. Will be searching for some sort of lift.

Yamaha fixed the issue on the newer boats. On my 07 Ar230, sitting unoccupied in a freshwater slip, the deck is pitched the wrong way. This is a stock boat, no weight distribution changes. During rain events, an open boat or even a covered boat water can get in. Well that water did not flow aft to the scupper as designed. But rather it flowed forward to the bow where it accumulates until it floods the front edge of the ski locker and overflows into the locker/bilge. That is the front edge of the "gutter" system around the hatches that directs the water to the scupper. The problem is the deck is pitched the wrong way. Ya, I put a level on it. Gear was always wet in the ski locker as well as the bow carpet. I fixed the deck pitch issue so I could have piece of mind that the water would flow aft out the scupper and not into the bilge where the pump will cycle and possibly drain a battery not left on shore power. I put a 350# water ballast bag on the upper deck of the swim platform while at the slip. This is the only leak issue, design issue I have had, all thru hulls have been good. https://jetboaters.net/threads/rain-water-pools-at-front-of-bow-floor-while-on-the-water.14264/ Boat has been dry inside since.
