Gas Prices vs Boat Prices

Gas prices are around $4/gal while I am hearing California already has some $5 gas. I run only premium in my truck and boat and if they are both empty, at $6/gal it will cost me over $360 to fill them.

I am no economist or expert but I wonder if $5 or $6 gas will crash the current boat market. Some of us will hold our boats but alot of people got into campers and boats during COVID. Pulling a camper at 6-8 miles to the gallon or a boat at 12-15...it starts to get expensive pretty fast.

Just my humble opinion, I think it breaks the market, especially if we get to $6.

I see it as breaking even with spring 2020... back then I was paying 85c/L, now it's $2.10/L...

Wakesurfing that works out to $92 (cad) an hour.... still, every moment spent recreating as a family is worth it. I don't see us spending less time on the water.

We will adjust our routine a bit and likely cut out long cruises, assuming boating is even financially viable in a month or two. At this rate no idea what may happen with prices… or the world apparently lol. Basically we will be limiting the lake to a small area (still plenty big on this lake) and forgo some of the long distance cruising that we normally do just for the hell of it. I could afford the added cost increase (for now) but I’m not just going to burn it to burn it. Thankfully towing isn’t a factor for us anymore!

Personally I do think there will be some retraction on recreation this year. Everyone I know is talking about gas and the inflation and those will be factors this year than say in previous years. $6 a gallon and towing or lots of boating is going to be felt in the wallet. Where a family might have normally taken 2 to 3 long trips a year might have to scale back to 1 or 2 trips.

We probably won't spend less time on the water, but we will change how we spend the time. Burning through an entire tank when it was $85 to fill up my tank and would last 6-7 hours of watersports was nice. When and if it costs $300+ to fill my tank or there abouts, watersports all day towing is going to be minimized. May just get a couple more large inflatables and let the kids bob around on those. Fishing and trolling will be fine since I have put on the trolling motor.

Running 20-30 miles across Lake St. Clair and up into the rivers will have to be changed a bit. I will most likely drive a lot closer or around the otherside of Anchor Bay and put in close to where I plan to fish.

Regular gas in ca is now $5 a gallon with highest price paid for gas in ca was premium in Beverly Hills $7 a gallon.

Its not just boat or TV fuel that Is going to affect peoples recreational funds, it will also be the increase in prices for everything else that will be affected by high fuel prices, as well as inflation caused by printing trillions of dollars with no collateral so to speak, kinda like MVARS… wattless energy.

With supply still low I don't see prices coming back down. Things may level off though for a year or so. People that can afford 200k+ for a boat likely don't care about fuel prices. I was concerned I wouldn't get enough boat time this summer since we'll have a 7 month old. Now I don't really have to worry about it, cause we won't be doing much anyways. Time to get on this great resignation and get me a 30-50% pay increase! Once my contract is up this summer it's time to start looking.

More oil has been discovered in the last 10 years than has ever been discovered before that. There is no shortage of oil, there is an over abundance. Just like diamonds.

Hey man, what’s the going price for gas over at Ridge Marina? We were just talking about our vacation in June on Martin and was guessing it would be around $6-$6.50p/g this summmer.
Sadly we decided to cancel our second rental vacation cuz we can’t find a property and the prices have gotten ridiculously expensive. Yes, I just had a tear form .

They didn’t realize people would so deeply buy into the nonsense, and they actually have hurt themselves in an effort to make fuel seem like a potentially scarce commodity. The oil and gas industry discovered a long time ago that petroleum is actually produced by the abiotic oil theory. = The earth’s mantle through magma is what actually produces oil. It’s why an oil well will run dry, and a decade or so later will begin producing again. One of the oldest commercial oil rigs “Spindletop” from 1901, is said to still capable of producing oil.

I haven’t been down on the water this year as they are still raising the water level. I posted on the LM FB group to see about gas at the ridge but I’m sure it will fluctuate more by June. Where are y’all staying? Yea prices can be pretty expensive for home rentals. I suspect some of that might change if fuel prices continue to rise and people stop traveling as much. It is bound to happen at this rate. Hope y’all have a great time in June. I’m hoping to get down there next month if the warming trend continues.

Its was $3.78 in Otlando fl on Friday' saturday motning it was 3.98 i always go at best cruise 30mph and the only lake is 25 min. It will hurt once we atart going to the beach but small price for happyness.

What a great time to be a new boat owner /s.

Calculating what I'm going to cut back on to keep the fun going. First thing is, I think I'm going to pay the boat off. The savings alone in interest will free up some cash. It will prob be another 1-1.5 months before boating gets going. Plenty of time to replenish payoff funds. Second is going to be lunch at work. I could stand to lose a pound or twenty. Cutting that back alone will be $250 a month.

$4.88 per gallon at the Speedway this morning here for Cash, $4.98 for credit. Mobile was $4.55 These both are for standard octane.

I wonder if the Trolling motor would pull the kids in the tube........

Our season is short in the north so that helps me a little. lol

We won't do our annual trip over to Minnesota renting a cabin so that is $1500 right there. Don't expect us to change our playtime (surf, ski, board) runs but probably cut back on just cruising. Get on the water, do our thing.

Saw online a few stations have diesel to $7 but have no idea where that was at.
