Hi everyone,

I’m a beginner and recently bought my first boat — a Yamaha SX192 (2022). I’m really excited, but I’ve run into a problem: it won’t start, and I honestly don’t know what’s wrong.

I’ve tried everything I could think of — checked the battery, made sure the safety lanyard is in place, verified that it’s in neutral, looked at fuel levels, and even checked fuses. Still, the engine won’t crank or turn over.

I’d really prefer not to wait until Tuesday and take it to the dealer if it’s something simple or common that I can fix myself. Maybe I’m just missing something that experienced boat owners know right away?

If anyone has any advice or has had a similar issue with this model, I’d really appreciate your help.

Thanks in advance!

Is the hatch on the swim platform locked? There is a pressure switch there that will kill the motor if not depressed.

Another thought…. Did anything else change since the boat last ran? Wondering if a battery lead might have been discounted, or connected to the incorrect terminal.

Yes, the owner of the boat also said this and the rear hatch is closed.

I haven't ridden it yet, I bought it on Friday in Tampa and brought it to Georgia, drove to the lake and it wouldn't start.

Bummer. Wish I had additional words of wisdom to share. Maybe see if you can find a service manual online and with a multi-meter, take the readings as suggested, vs having to head to the dealership.

Also, if you have a helper with you, check the switch on the swim platform by having someone hold it down while you crank the engine. The switch might need adjustment.

Yes, we already tried holding down the switch on the swim platform, but unfortunately the issue still persists. Looks like we’ll have to take the boat to the dealer after all.
Thanks for your help!

Can you jump the starter and see if it turns over at all

You can also jump the solenoid and that will kick the starter over

The boat started and ran when you bought it correct?

I know you said you checked it, but it’s really easy to think that the throttle lever is in neutral when it isn’t actually. Sounds like you already have checked the usual suspects. Let us know what it ends up being.

So for clarification what do you mean EXACTLY when you say it won't start?? won't turn over at all or turns over but will not run
