2012 AR240 Starboard side pump vibration snaps steering cable

Hopefully I can get some insight here. Put the boat in the water for the first time this year and all of a sudden the starboard side drive began to vibrate real bad. Pulled the boat out of the water and the steering cable was broke. Right at the clevis that connects to the nozzle. Was running fine, came to a no wake zone and throttled down. Went to throttle back up and thats when the vibration occurred. Replaced cable and it vibrated and snapped as soon as I went to throttle up. Nothing that I can see has excessive play. Anyone that can point me in the right direction? Thank you!!!

Hi its the guy from fb I would start with pulling the pump apart maybe there us something in there that you cant see just an idea

Well, I definitely need another steering cable. Haha, i need to see if there is any gaskets in that pump and order and those. Im going to look on Partzilla tomorrow. Wasnt sure if anyone has ever ran across this issue. Thank you for the reply sir!

From my understanding there is not a gasket on them. Just 4 bolts and it comes apart.

Also there has been a good bit of stuff in the lake so far this year. So glad I haven't got anything caught up in the pump.

Reverse bucket is probably hanging low and obstructing the water exiting the nozzle if it is you will feel it real bad in the throttle handle when the boat is on plane . place the controls in forward and look at the buckets the edge should not be in the way of the water jet exiting the nozzle

While you are in there check all the pump housing bolts as well , make sure they are all tight

Probably just a seized bucket cable. 8 years isnt bad for a cable. I'd buy 2 and replace both while you are at it. Lots of links in the FAQ including the one to when I did this.

...and the age of yours is about right for a failure. I had one go about 18 months ago (I think). I tried to repair mine rather than replace the cable (mistake). Just replace the cables. As they said, both of them.
