Hello Everyone

Just started to use my boat this weekend (8.2 hours) when I noticed an alarm code flashing [AL]
Unsure how to read it - have no idea what it is :(

Boat runs\revs fine to 8K rpm so I don't think the engine is overheating - otherwise the rpms should be restricted to like 3K (per owners manual)

Battery looks fine\charged

Cooling looks OK (steady water stream on the starboard side)

Have about 10 gallons left out of 30 - I was hoping it was low on gas

Run out of ideas I really appreciate your knowledgeable comments ...

I was looking at the analog needle so 8000 might not be 100% accurate
also it went up to 45mph (same analog) with full throttle and 4 people on board
so I don't think the performance was affected by this alarm (me hopes)

It wasn't the depth alarm was it? I think it is set at 3' from the factory.

AR190 does not have one
Also I've unplugged the battery (as in turned the battery switch off) and reconnect it after 30 sec
the flashing [AL] is still there :(

it blinks "AL" letters bottom left with no pattern that I can detect

no other character(s) are displayed

I was expecting something like AL – overheat or AL- low gas or AL – oil pressure

- no other info is available (or I am unable to find it)

was hoping for like an error log menu or something like that

I think you have to acknowledge the [AL]. Have you hit the reset button on the guage.

I think that's was part of the problem
I was actually using the M/T buttons when the alarm occurred thus "acknowledging" w/o even knowing
All I've ever seen was the "AL" blinking

PS Mine is a AR190 I picked up the closest model that was available from the dropdown box (should I use AR instead ? there's no AR190)

Have you looked at your manual yet?

I just pulled a 2013 190 owners manual up online and under "instrument operation" on page 43 it talks about the (AL) code.

When it originally detected a problem it should have told you what it is, after you press the "M" button the description disappears but keeps the (AL) flashing, It doesn't say how to go back and view it again or how to make the (AL) stop flashing, I guess it stays flashing until your problem goes away.

It could be low battery voltage, anything different happen lately? run the boat out of the water, drained battery, suck something up?

it may be worth purchasing a Yamaha Diagnostic System (YDS) to look into your engine to see what it was.

maybe disconnect your batteries for a few minutes and then start it up again to see if it will display the description again or stop the (AL) from flashing,

With the boat shut off, disconnect your ground cable on the battery. Leave off for 15 seconds amd reinstall. While you are at the battery check to insure all your cables are hooked up. It is very easy to miss the small wired one. Are they hooked up correctly?

Once you disconnected the battery cable did the al code code away or at least now show what the alarm is?

You hit the nail in the head

"It doesn't say how to go back and view it again or how to make the (AL) stop flashing "

Guess I will physically disconnect the battery too I thought that the battery turn off switch is enough

Just to make it clear

Noticed the <AL>arm flashing while I was fiddling with the M\T buttons so I have no idea what triggered the warning but somehow I've "managed" to turn off the alarm description.
I've tried to reset the alarm by turning off the battery red switch ( so not by disconnecting the battery terminals ) as I was on the water with no tools. Didn't work :(

My next step is to actually remove the battery completely measure the charge etc. but I don't think I can see the results right away as the engine must be running and the boat is currently stored off-shore

Thank you guys for all the knowledgeable replies
