2018 Charleston Pinopolis Lock Cooper River Run/ Hilton Head Gathering 5/12 and 5/13 2018

If the wife and I were solo, the HH run would be great to try. With kids, we need more downtime than 5pm-8am and some land activities for them in between the hours on the boat. There is a chance the kids could do a half day Friday and we make Charleston Friday afternoon; but I will not go solo and am not sure my friend is up to go. So far it only looks like @Mainah and his friend with the 242 are stopping in Charleston. If we did that we could meet up with the group on the return Sunday; but otherwise it seems we are a bit “odd man out” and might be better off doing this trip or the planned Chattanooga-Knoxville trip when kids are done with school and we have more hours to work with. I am not bailing out yet; but wanted to update the group that we are on the fence.

I think in the end there will probably be 4-6 boats that overnight in Charleston. You are welcome to start in Charleston with me Saturday morning if you would rather do the Hilton Head run. I will have a 1 year old and a 9 year old on my boat so my plan is to probably not wait on the group in Charleston but go ahead and make my way to Beaufort and stop there and grab some food and let every on play on land for a while until the group catches up. I think I'm going to take Sunday off this year so I won't have to haul tail back and may take my time coming back on Sunday as well.

@Ramblin Wreck are you in on this I just realized I didn't have you down?

I just made my slip reservation at Shelter Cove and was only charged $3 per foot, 28' x $3 = $84, not the minimum 30', so hopefully others aren't charged $90. What I did find nice about the marina is that at each slip they offer 120 vac 30 amp service for free.

Did you book online or call? I saw online it was only going to charge me $72 for my boat but I have not booked yet.

I booked online and already received an email confirmation.

I was thinking about asking who was going to leave earlier. I would actually like to get to HH as soon as possible on Saturday to get our money's worth for the hotel, slip, and area happenings. Bringing the kids along as well, but a bit older (10, 12, 14).

Who is confirmed for Saturday Charleston overnight? Just wondering how many.

I'm booked at Shelter Cove now as well.

I will be heading that way earlier then most of the group but I'm skipping the lock this year I will probably do just a lock run with my crew in April sometime. I'm departing from Charleston and probably will be on the water no later then 9am but could be moving by 8am. To roll with me though you would likely have to skip the lock as well and depart from Charleston Saturday morning. Not trying to talk you out of meeting me early as you are more then welcome to but if you have never done the lock it is worth it your kids will love it this thing is massive and a truly unique experience.

Man you know I want to but Mother’s Day might be a problem for me. I’ll keep you posted if I’m able but right now it’s not looking good.

Cool I hope you make it. The boss just threw me off last night she said that Brit had told her she thought you guys were going and I kind of thought you said you were not but she made me question it.

We both would love to go, but her mom made a big deal a few years ago when we missed Mother’s Day for this trip. Her grandmothers are both up in age and it’s a big family event each year. I think we are going to try and do something with the family the week before but not sure if we can convince all the parties involved to make that happen. Hopefully we can pull that off.

I wasn't planning on doing the lock run anyways. It would be a cool experience but that's a lot of time in the water and the kids would get bored. I plan on staying in Charleston Friday night so an 8-9 launch would be fine with me. Where in Beaufort do we stop? Would like to see what's there if we will be there for a minute.

We will stop at Downtown marina which is right in the historical district of Beaufort. Yes I plan to stop and grab lunch and check it out so likely an hour or two stop on the way down. I'm staying in Charleston Friday night as well so I will keep in touch on a plan to depart from there I will launch from Remley's Point in Mt pleasant so we can figure out a time to meet there or somewhere on the water.

Thanks @robert843 . Drive time to Hills Landing is the same as downtown Charleston, so driving to Charleston Friday night might make the HH run work well for us. My girls are 5, 7 and 9. I would need to switch my hotel reservation in Charleston and add one in HH. I would also want to buy the coastal maps for my gps; but will definitely plan to be sticking with you and others if we decide to go this route.

I'm am booked at the Days Inn Hilton Head which is a short walk from Shelter Cove Marina. I paid $119 to allow for free cancellation prior to 4 pm on 5/11.

So the marina just called me and stated that $90 is supposed to be the correct price but because online only charged me $72 they were going to honor it. They are working on getting the online booking fixed so if anyone else is certain they are going to Hilton Head I would try and book online now before they get it fixed if you can. I think the cancellation is 48 hours out and we should know by then if our plans need to change. They did mention space maybe limited and asked if we minded rafting up if needed I told them I didn't mind so maybe they will be a little more forgiving on pricing for our group.

I am good with folks rafting up with me. When you call to make a slip reservation in Hilton Head you can give them my info, Andrew Smith boat name "Guess Not". If you do just let me and others know, so i can keep track.
