Every year, in October, we have a run on the Illinois river from Starved Rock Park in Peru, IL to Peoria IL. This is a 78 mile trip. It usually takes us 2 or so hours to cruise down. We eat lunch and head back up. It is usually a nice relaxing pace. We usually have around 12 - 15 boats. We will plan to leave Starved Rock at 8:30 am. Everyone should plan on getting there between 7:30 am - 8:00 am, so that we can launch and be ready to go by 8:30 am. We always encourage boaters to dress in layers. We usually always start off in sweats and end up in t-shirts by afternoon.

I made Kuchies for 11 am. It is important that we get there at 11 right as they open to ensure we get dock space. Guess what? The owner let me know that there is no bee problem this year! However, she said bring mosquito repellent just in case. I would surprise me if mosquitoes are still an issue that late in the year, though. They also mentioned that they will have expanded their menu by then, as they are finalizing some items this week. They are anxious for us to try their new items.

Also, after we leave lunch there is a marina (Eastport Marina) about 1 mile away where we can refuel before heading back north.

Unfortunately it doesn't look like I'm going to be able to make it this year.

We will be unable to make it this year. We are already booked for a football game in Champaign.

The weather is going to be cold Saturday 48 as a high.

Thinking a Lake Geneva cruise as the backup plan if the forecast is not desirable. What days everyone?

IL river at Starved Rick is currently over flood level - may drop by Saturday but more rain expected this week

I’ll be driving over it Wednesday, not scientific but it’ll give at least some idea. I’m open to Lake G as a backup, but at some point I have to tuck her in the warehouse for her nap...

I'm unsure as of today.

Showing .20 Thursday night and .47" friday. Would starved rock shut down launch if over flood levels?

Ok. I think it's safe to make the call to cancel. My wife told me this morning that she's not interested in "an unpleasant trip" and she's out. With the weather and no docks at the launch, it's just not worth it to her. I am going to cancel the reservations at Kuchies and we are staying home and winterizing.

Yeah I stopped at the park today on my way through, the ramp area isn’t even open at Starved Rock

Guess I’ll be doing the same, unless I can manage to get out SOMEWHERE this weekend. Not very promising though.

Water is pretty high, is this still a go??

This is a no go.

Yeah. We only made it to LG 2 times this year and one was the 4th of July. As always, hope to make it there more next year.
