242x E Series? or another Boat?

Ahhh yes.... would want two of them. Have you considered automating them? I saw another post on here about automation but it's seperate I understand.

@rocknracing handles the automation. It is an add on and can be purchased thru either he or I.

on boattest.com, look under the test results section on any of the 240/242 tests from 2015/16.

I did some measurements this morning after laying down a giant rubber mat in my ski locker .

I let the phone sit in the dashboard cup holder with the mic facing the stern.

idle: 62 db
1st no wake: 63 db
2nd no wake: 64 db
3rd no wake: 64 db
5500 rpm/28 mph: 72 db
60oo rpm/33 mph: 78 db
WOT/54 mph: 89 db

caveats:
1. Using a free db meter on my phone, so can't attest to the accuracy
2. Gas tank at 75% (saying this because I do notice a difference when the tank is empty vs full)
3. Was very calm on the water, so boat was having a very easy go of it

all numbers aside, even at 33 mph, my wife and I easily talked, no shouting, no straining. I dont have measurements from my AR210, but easy conversation at 33 mph was simply not possible.

thanks,
Derek

Ryan, these guys are taking good care of you on the information front. If you watersports/other 90/10, even 80/20 a wakeboat will fit your needs the best. A few things they didn't point out.
The Yamaha will cruise faster/more efficiently,
The wakeboat will ballasted watersports more efficiently,
The Yamaha may need a bag on the seat or rear deck to get the most out of it for surfing, the wakeboat will be push button from the driver seat.
Most newer surf wakeboats can switch surf sides with a button push while underway.
Wakeboats that will have something that fits your budget number: Axis (w/surfgate), Moomba (w/flow), Tige R-series(w/Taps 3), MB ??, Supreme

Here's an option for you. Buy 2 boats for the $75K...

http://heydayinboards.com/ I saw one of these on the lake the other day. Different looking but put out one heck of a surf wave. Sells for like $40K

then go buy yourself a used Yammie for cruising!!!

That thing does like pretty cool!!!

Wow. Never seen the heyday before. That's pretty impressive

As someone who has never been on dedicated wake/surf boat what makes them not a good all around boats as well? I am just curious neither are in my market

Not all wake boats are the same, just as not all jet boats are the same. We recently sold our SX210 and bought an MB F22, which we use as an "all around" boat. In fact, we just came back from a week long trip to Lake Tahoe. We used the boat to cruise with as many as 13 people aboard (7 of them kids), to wake surf (see my other thread about surfing tahoe for a pic if interested), and to hang out at some gorgeouse beaches (Sand Harbor, Sugarpine Point, Emerald Bay, etc.). The boat perfomed beautifully, even in the substantial afternoon chop & rollers that Tahoe is known for. The MB has a pretty deep V and weighs 1500 lbs more than our Yamaha did, so it isn't surprising that is rides pretty smoothly. In comparison to our 210, the only disadvantages I'd note was needing to keep the stern in about 3 feet of water instead of 2 feet of water when anchored stern to the beach and that more water spray comes in sideways due to the windshield design. Due to the prop we chose for pulling power on our MB we cruise at lower speeds with the MB (typically 25 to 28 GPS) than we did with the Yamaha (28 - 32 on the dreamometer), but after a bit of adjustment and the realization that the actual difference in time taken to get anywhere is negligible, it doesn't bother me at all.

If wake sports are a significant factor, you really can't compare a boat designed for that purpose with a Yamaha or other jet boat. Don't get me wrong, I really really liked our SX210. It never let us down and we had a lot of great times on that boat!

Wow this is all great information! I've been out of commission (to many pain meds to warrant posting anything online.. lol). I'll be checking out the above today loads of great feedback and ideas. I actually had a guy email me about my boat this weekend so that's a positive sign should I decide to make a change.

It's weird... i have to stop doing wake sports, but I love skiing, wake boarding (i'm no longer jumping) and want to do more surfing as it's fun and low impact. My kids on the other hand want a full wake boat of course and my wife and the other parts of me want the cruiser to go an cruise around the lake etc etc. Good feedback on the MB. Cruising mid 20's vs upper 20's isn't any difference for me either.. I'm good with that.

Keep the thoughts coming.. I'm still torn and I guess it's going to have to be what really jumps at me or speaks to me when I test drive them. Trade offs on both I guess.

Old thread, but @Julian, what setting do you use for acceleration and speed for wakeboarding?

Speed depends on the rider. I usually use medium acceleration for all riders and speed is dependent on weight. I do 17-18 for adults and as low as 13-14 for kids.
