I am located in Pinellas county Florida just south of Largo and north of St Pete.
When I work on new things I like to involve people who are willing to allow me access to their boat and who are willing to test things out etc. while keeping the research confidential. I am looking for a volunteer for a bit of research who is not too far away, so email me if you believe this is something you would enjoy being involved in. Jeff@cobrajetsteering.com

Dang it, Jeff!
You need to move closer to St. Louis.

sorry too damn cold for me

I'd give ya mine but i'm just too far away.

So far I have had several people interested in helping out and I appreciate their offers however I am actually trying to find someone with a
stock boat if possible.

So you probably remember the name ULTIMATE steering and the name MAGNUM A K steering and the FANGS and A K FANGS so now you may want to remember this name C J S VIPER.

I ordered the ultimate, but haven't put them because I don't have the boat yet. If you're coming out with something better, can I return the ultimates and get the VIPER?

This is being designed as a model specific system for single engine boats with the factory rudder only.
I will also design one for the single engine non rudder setup soon.
The price is going to be in the $159 range.
The C J S VIPER is intended to perform several functions because that is what we do. I never sell a one trick pony.
All our systems can do more than just slow speed assistance. Even the very first design from years ago did both high and low speed assistance.
That seems to be what people want and why not? These boats are now doing a lot more than they did years ago and becoming more versatile every day.
So first , this system was designed to move the fins further out away from the nozzle for several reasons, one being to get them out away from the hull so they can get better exposure and be more effective with less depth so they are protected by the factory rudder as they do not go below it, similar to the magnum A K steering fins positioning.
And since we are adding fins further apart they have more movement or travel than regular fins giving them more effect.
So we built in the fangs for power steering etc. and if this was not enough we built in a trim tab for hull stabilization since we had the room between the fins, damn I am just spoiling you people ! FINS , FANGS and TRIM TAB all in one!
Now remember I am still having people do tests on this , so far it's looking pretty good.
I may entertain a few more volunteers with the 19 foot rudder equipped boats to do some more field testing, or not, I am still giving that some more thought.

Sorry, stock boat but.... way on the other side of the country as I can be...:(

I thought so. Anyway, from what I've heard, there's no improving the Ultimate. I hear they're the best.
Thanks , the only way to improve the Ultimate steering is to add the fangs for power steering and better reverse control.

I believe the VIPER will become as popular as the magnum A K system has become on the twin engine keel boats, they are specifically designed to address specific needs of that style of boat .

Ok so here you go

Today I stopped by National Auto Service on 49 street in Pinellas Park FL to speak with Bill.
Bill is the owner of the 19 foot Yamaha testing out my C J S VIPER steering.
It was an interesting conversation. I wanted to know his opinion of the change in his boats handling since we installed this system. He quickly informed me that he was very impressed with how the boat planed off quicker and how the steering was so influential over the stock rudder alone.
How he loved that he could take his hands off the wheel at speed and the boat tracked straight.
And how it responded in high speed turns as well as slow speed maneuvering. So I asked if he wanted me to remove it, he was not amused and said very quickly NO!
I asked if there was anything he did not like about this system or he thought could use some improvement.
He said he liked the way the system worked but he did have one question about something he noticed near his pump.
He was quite concerned as he pointed to a long black strip hanging from his exhaust exit opening.
I reached up grabbed hold of the object and yanked it off the boat, he had a concerned look on his face when I handed it to him as I explained that whoever installed the exhaust fitting at the factory used way too much silicon calking and it's all fixed now! It obviously had nothing to do with the steering.
He looked a bit relieved and I informed him of items others have found inside their new boats.

This was an unusual situation from the start, since Bill had never even heard of my steering I stop in his business with no prior contact expecting to be escorted from the property.
Imagine a total stranger asking if he can stop by unannounced and mess with his nearly new boat, Long hair, beard, no sleeves on his shirt, 64 years old driving a 10 year old nitro with peeling clear coat.
Telling him about my 15 years of experience making jet boats and p w c's steer and my 3 us patents etc.
And if he agrees I will set his boat up free of charge . I honestly was not expecting him to agree and during the first few visits he just looked at me like he did not know if he should believe a word of it, but when I showed up with a template and explained to him what the system would do and why, I saw him nodding his head in agreement.
Later when I showed up with the prototype to install it he was excited and watched over me during the install as I explained once more what it was going to do and how.
Today he was a different person , he even thanked me for his new VIPER steering system. And I thanked him for his help.viper 026.JPG viper 026.JPG

The new fins look like something we definitely would like!

Update on this new VIPER system for the rudder equipped single engine boats. I have a couple people who are doing independent testing with this system on their personal boats, they are also providing me with their input . I an currently looking for just a couple more people who are currently using their boats so that I can get the feedback in a timely manor.
Here is the deal so to speak. I am selling the parts to them for 75 dollars it's theirs to keep. However if they don't want to keep the parts they can return the system for a refund. List for this system is being set at $159 free domestic shipping etc.
They are doing the install and taking pictures, sending in suggestions as to what sequence they found easiest to do , and providing their opinion of how the system performs.
All this is being done by people who are unknown to me. Just that simple. So if you have the proper "STOCK" boat and you reside in a climate that allows you to use your boat now, just email me JEFF@COBRAJETSTEERING.COM .
Just a reminder, I already have steering that works great on all the 19 foot boats called the Ultimate steering, spring loaded adjustable, selectable meaning you decide if you want it to stay in the water at speed or rise up at speed, tempered aluminum parts and very proven in that application.
What prompted me to do this new design was reading about people wanting a trim tab system for hull stability and I wanted to make fins that were up higher to avoid the ground when beaching but also be exposed to as much water as possible to keep the fins smaller but still effective, putting them out wider gives them the water exposure keeps them up above the bottom of the rudder and gives the fins more leverage to turn the nozzle using the fangs while covering more distance when the nozzle turns.
So I combined all those features together to design this system. I plan to offer a similar one for the single engine non rudder 19 foot boats after this one is tested and produced . REMEMBER JET STEERING IS WHAT I DO!

I would be curious if those influence the boat's attitude, if at all. Could be a great thing for running in chop/rough water. If those push the bow down, some may prefer the Ultimates.

The platform is made to stabilize the hull in chop and plane off faster, having independent testing being done by members should give us some feedback on them.

Stupid 90 days of boating season up here..;)
