Hello all! New to the forum, not so new to jetboats.... I live in Charleston, SC I'm a certified Yamaha boat/waverunner technician. In my full time job I'm a master captain for a watersports company and my work boat is a 2019 AR242 limited, which is about our 3rd one we usually get about 1800-2000 hours out of one in two seasons or so... I recently came across a deal I couldn't pass up, $2500 for a beat up 2016 AR192 so I figured I'd start a thread on bringing it back to life. I've started cleaning the inside out getting in better shape, next up will be the outside trying to get it looking better. It looks like the person never used bumpers or just couldn't dock a boat. I'll have to clean, diag, and reassemble the engine. Will it's apart I'll add some go fast parts, nothing crazy...

Wow.... The prior owner did a number on that relatively new boat.

Wow at that price that is fantastic. Looking forward to see how it turns out. Welcome!

Yes, the head was pulled off, and sent to a local shop to get work done to it (not sure exactly what they did) but I know the guy that owns the shop so I'll call and see. It just needs reassembled, cleaned, and maybe other things...but I've rebuilt at least 100 of the 1.8's so no biggie there just some $$ for whatever parts. We also rent jetskis at my work so I'm always having to mess with these things, but we recently become a Sea-doo dealer.

Just so I'm 100% clear.....if ANYONE finds a deal like this. I want in. This looks like the kind of stuff I used to do to second gen RX7's years ago. Find them in shambles, throw some elbow grease and a few parts at them, drive for awhile then lather rinse repeat.

Great job so far @CaptainBarker You guys have a need for an R&D Engineer? That looks like a helluva lot of fun to work!

Hahaha well we sell our skis after they hit between 100-200 hrs...and the boats after about 1800 hrs after replacing timing chains I'll gladly put them up on here when they go up for sale... as far as R&D we're always trying to solve, and prevent customer related repairs...

oh man, I can't wait to see how this turns out

Next up this weekend is trying to get all the scratches and dings smoothed out....I'm trying to just get away with ordering factory decals with some serious wet sanding and buffing..

Very cool! I'll be watching this one!

That 242 sure is pretty!

Yes I'm excited about a fresh company boat for the summer...that's our 4th 242 so I have roughly 4000 hrs of helm time in the AR242 models hahaha not counting working for dealerships doing water tests

A few quick test hits on the outside paint....not really excited about deep these scratches are....

I'm really quite impressed at how extensively the previous owner tore this up in just 9yrs. I've seen boats from the '70s that were NOT taken care of, and they didn't look this bad.

I think this should boat be named "Zero F@&^s Given"

Good job on the buffing though. I suspect you're going to have to get a few sections recoated/painted to get those deep scratches to go away.

Wow! You’re getting it there, though. That’s looking dramatically different!

Port side isn't as bad, I removed the graphics. I'm thinking wet sand/buff out all I can, and go with a graphic kit if I can find one just bc I still have to go through the engine, and sort out mechanical odds and ends...I'd love to have it back in the water by may... I did a light spray of gloss black on the water line I buffed out just as a temporary fix...20210316_190419.jpg 20210316_183545.jpg20210316_183601.jpg

5 years, not 9...

I can’t even imagine how a boat got so severely damaged after such a short amount of time.

Guessing the original owner defaulted on the loan and it somehow sat outside, uncovered up against a crappy dock for years...

Just unbelievable...

I think it was used as a transfer boat for a flyboarding company, and docked right outside of a no wake zone (which is right where ppl power up coming out of it) causing a bigger wake...probably pulled everyday out of the water, but never had the cover put on...my work boats will go from April to Oct with no cover and the paint and seats look better than how I found this one...of course they're washed every single afternoon
