Thanks, @Ozark . Now I see better (and looked back at OP pic). I agree. Looks like no turning needed, as the metal tabs are already lined up with the slots in the hole.

I now see the sense in the jack/2x4 recommendations on pulling up/pushing from the bottom. Yeah, do that...
 
Maybe after close inspection. Isn't that stuff cast though both on the tube and the plug? If it is I wonder if it will just break? The puzzling part is how did even get into that position. Not sure I could do that with mine if I tried..

It looks like he lined up the metal ears on the plug (180 degrees off) and then probably pushed down trying to get it to seat. The black plastic set tab is now wedged and holding it down.
 
@Ozark yes you are correct. Maybe a 1 x 2 or something like that from underneath and a couple of good taps with light/heavy hammer may just pop it out. Probably put some silicone spray or something all over where the set tab is.

Must have been a lot of force to get it in there I would think.

In addition to pulling straight up and possibly breaking the plastic set tab should I worry about damaging anything else? I don't know how long it would take to get another cap. Might miss the whole season, but can't use the as is.
 
How about taking a large wooden dowel, like a closet hanger rod and tap down gently on the plug around it’s circumference with a hammer instead of trying to pull up? Seems to me that the upward pressure from running it is what lodged it in there, you got it in there in its current orientation without brute force.

Have you consulted the dealer? I’m sure the dealer has dealt with this sort of thing before.

You really don't have much of a choice. Pick one of the methods recommended that you feel may work the best and give it a shot. See what happens. Or wait to see if you can get it into the dealer.

If it was just hulked down into place, I think tapping it out should work relatively easy.
 
1) Don't damage the boat/ring the plug goes into
2) Try to not damage, or at least make the plug repairable

If the keying tab is plastic and the rings on the plug and boat are metal, and you have the tabs on the rings aligned so that they clear each other then I'd pull straight up with the jack/lever. The plastic tab should shear off before anything else gives. Disassembling the plug I think makes it more difficult to grip and doesn't help. Disassembling the tube can't make it worse, but I'm not sure if it helps. I don't see the plastic tab surviving the outcome. (Team, Othering than keying the plug in (which it didn't do here!), is the plastic tab necessary?)

Left a VM with dealer a couple if days ago haven't heard back. Will try again.
 
I think I would try to tap them back down, and then reverse your procedure when you installed them. All the water pressure is what has them lodged in the up position. If the water pressure couldn't blow them off, doubt you will be able to pull them out. I would tap them back down and then find a way to turn them counter clockwise, assuming you turned them clockwise when installing.

While it would be difficult, it might be beneficial to have someone tapping down on it while someone else attempted to turn the handle.
 
@kgower I understand you are in a bit of shitty situation, but those things happen and this not the end of the world. Maybe a couple of lost boating weekends and a few hundred dollars. I wanted to added a couple of items on the cacophony.

1. Whatever you do please do not have a child holding a camera right above the plug while you are using a Jack. Your boats plug will not come out smoothly like the one shown on the video. His plug is probably swollen while yours is stuck. Your has a much higher potential to “ explode” upwards so please make sure that if you do whatever you do you don’t have anyone looking down the plug.
2. I do not have any good advice as I am not familiar with those plugs. I do believe that you will be successful on removing thought, so my concern is on happens after you are successful. There is the potential that you damage either the male or female part of the entire assembly. The male part ( the plug itself ) it should be fairly Wally to see if there is any damage by comparing it to the other plug of the same style. You might have an i viable crack on it but still you can look at it. The female ( in tube) I doubt you will be able to see much. So when it is all done , I would say take the boat out for slow ride and increase speed gradually until you get to WOT for 19 minutes or so. Make sure you don’t go far out in case things go real bad.


To finalize and summarize, things will be okay at the end of the day, so please make sure you don’t cause any bodily damage to anyone. Boats are just part numbers ....
 
How far is your dealer? If this was me, I'd just pull in with the boat in the afternoon and ask if one of their techs could "come out and quick give me some advice."
Dealer is about 45 minutes away. Thought of that. Left a msg with a specific tech, hope to hear back soon.
