I thought I would let forum members know that I’ve made a pretty detailed (i.e. a little long ) YouTube video regarding Depth/Temperature Transducer Replacement in a twin engine Yamaha. This isn’t a particularly difficult task and requires minimal tools and limited mechanical/electrical skill to complete. I used the less expensive Airmar transducer with the NMEA 2K connector (exactly the same as OE except for connector) and the JB Solutions NMEA 2K to Yamaha T-harness. It all worked like a charm and saved at least a hundred dollars in parts.

This video should be helpful for anyone needing to replace their depth/temperature transducer or the their depth/temp/speed transducer as the process is virtually the same. However, the transducer part numbers will be different.

Regards,

Ron

Literally one of the best and most detailed install videos I’ve seen. Great job! I was dying at the safety wire angst. I think the safety wire was the toughest part of this job. Thanks for documenting that install, it taught me a lot.

Super good job on your transducer fix! Love the fact you were wearing safety glasses as much as possible !

I could see that the clean out tray had not been sealed very well from the factory and I know you mentioned you were going to seal it. Sealing the tray and some of those O rings from @Spooky pantz under the clean out plugs would probably eliminate any water you’re getting in the bilge.

I liked seeing how the water locks / mufflers came out and went back in, you made it look pretty easy. I’m thinking of pulling mine out and welding on a threaded bung and adding a valve so I can drain the water locks without having to run the engines out of the water to blow them out. Also thinking of doing a sound deadening project this winter, I want to pull the water locks and exhaust hoses so I can put sound deadening materials in the aft bilge as well as in and around the engine bay. I spend a lot of time trolling with the engines on and it would be nice to cut the noise down.

Again, great job! It’s because of videos like this that allow and give people the confidence to make repairs effectively and for a lot less money than having a dealer do the work!
