I think it would be good to have a single Gatherings forum so that anyone looking for gatherings can see everything going on. Some members are willing to travel long distances for the right destination or group of friends?

What does everyone else think?

I don't think so at first. But as it expands, then they can be moved into groups, notifying the author that it is now in that group. Either geographic or otherwise. Until I convince both Clara and myself on another boat, mine won't be boating vacations...but who doesn't love maui? ;)iphone photos 270 (Medium).jpg

I agree with Bruce....the current board is too pidgeon holed. A general gathering section would be fine. If we get big enough that it starts cluttering up people's new posts list, then we can deal with it then. Again....keep is simple to start. We can always add more complexity as we go. But we need a solid structure to get going on ASAP!

@jawsf16 , @txav8r , @Julian - Would you guys like to have an after work call today to discuss the forum structure? I am available for the rest of the day.

I have to pick up a cat at the vet at 4pm cst...and meet Clara after she gets off for dinner at around 5:15pm cst. Not sure I will be around when you guys want to chat. But I am game if I am.

Here is my guess as a quick section break out:

1) Welcome Aboard!
1a) How to Winterize your boat (the best of section on posts on how to do this titled by model)
2) General Section-Boat related
3) Gatherings Section
4) Member Tips
5) Polls
6) Classified Ads
A) Boats
B) Boating Stuff
C) Other Stuff

Hidden Forums (visible by request only)
1) Admin discussions (like these)
2) Moderator Discussions (about user issues)
2) Politics
3) Boats and Babes?

I should be able to make a call this evening. I have a meeting until 5:30ET, and them am getting my hair cut, then dinner with the family.....

What time were you thinking? 8:30pm ET would work for me....again, we can use my conf bridge if needed.

We need a break down in the general section of more than just boats.
A) Boating
B) Non boating
Because we had a bunch of folks that chatted, including me in boat food that always branched into non boating recipe and help. Maybe even more break down, but for now that would do I think.

I should be back by 7:30pm cst (8:30pm est) and will participate.

Start small, think big.
Start it as it is, if you grow, you adapt. You get the benefit of seeing what options are out there and what worked, and then incorporate things you like. Take your time with it and the site will flow just fine.

I feel like I just read the minutes from the first board meeting. Cat pickup and all.

Yeah....sorry...this was a post from before we went live and were kicking things around. Probably should have moved it into our setup section, but at least you see that we discuss these things and come to a consensus where we can!

I'd love to think we had so many gatherings going on that the gatherings forum needed multiple. But we aren't there yet.

Moderators - we probably should make the bigger gatherings stickies? You have the power....apply as needed.

@McTafur, there are four gatherings organizing in this forum. I believe that Shelbyville is the closest one to you.

A single "gatherings" forum should be fine as long as people are good about putting meaningful location info in the heading of each new thread :banghead:

This, a title with date and location and blam, gathering initiated! I like that.

I think you should break it down by state.

I think you should break it down by state.
That doesn't work well @Aaron . Because like here in north Texas, we get Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas all coming to gatherings here. Same in the southwest and southeast. I would expect in the NE it would be even more states combined. But nothing says you can't start a gathering based on States. Kinda funny...I remember a guy named @Bruce asking if a guy from Arkansas would be welcome at the Texas gathering! He was, he is, and he is doing the Great Bimini Cruise this year! But he is still from Arkansas:winkingthumbsup"

We currently only have 17 posts in this forum....so no need yet for any further subdivision. Regions is the furthest I think we need to go.....State level break down is too far. We are trying to keep active gatherings stickied at the top of the section.
