It's that time of year for wood fires and I just took delivery of a cord of wood. We burn the wood in our family room/MBR fireplaces. I like the whole process of building the fire but I have not had great luck with our wood since in some years it was not seasoned properly and in other years, even with a tarp, it seems to burn "wet".

Let's see any ideas on firewood shelters. I want to build a simple plywood, 2x4 kind of cover that would keep it nice and dry while also letting it air out. For now it sits under tarps and I don't think this is the best

I know some of you have to have some nice firewood storage ideas

I use these log racks from Northern Tool. I put them out where they are in the open (and sun) and just cover them with a tarp that covers the top part. Gets the wood off the ground and away from bugs too.

I have a high efficiency log stove....and once it is running it burns pretty much anything! But I do love fat wood for getting it going fast!

During the heating season in N. Vermont, I will burn 12-15 cords to heat the house, a 4500sf timber frame with a radiant slab, and a 1200sf garage/apt. above, depending on outside temp. My outdoor storage is not pretty, just a low pitched shed roof on the side of the garage, but it will cover 12 cords from rain, not so much wind driven snow. I try to leave up the two outer cordwood walls and use the center first. And it is a 10' walk from the wood boiler that does most of the heating. If the temps are below 10°F outside we will light up a wood stove or two in the house. We also have some storage inside, next to the wood stoves that is not only dry but also warm. They hold a couple of days of wood each. We picked ALL of the stones from the farm, hired out the 40' chimney, I did the hearths. All storage areas pretty empty now, but will be full by Thanksgiving.

You could put put a shed there, my vote, to hold your wood and other things as they accumulate...or you can build racks to hold a run and cover them. 3 racks to hold your cord.

12 cords? Thats a crapload! When i was still in RI i heated with a wood stove. Used 5 to 6 depending on how bad the winter got.

want to ski there very pretty
We are going back in January - to Seefeld.
It's different - as far as a lifestyle over there, that's for sure.
Avalanches as bad as Snowbird if not worse.

I skied axamer lixum near Innsbruck years ago and it was the best skiing I ever did. They also make homemade “schnapps” like alcohol that is similar to moonshine. Makes for some good, warm skiing and living
