my friend has a 212SS not on site yet, went to get his boat ready and steering is frozen solid. Only been about a month since boat was ran and was fine. Any ideas or do we need to totally replace steering cables

Disconnect a steering pushrod from one nozzle and try again, if still frozen, reconnect that rod and disconnect the other, to find out which cable is binding. Double check to make sure some driftwood isn't stuck behind the nozzle housing and binding it. It could also be a bent pushrod tube. Look behind the helm at the steering tree on steering wheel shaft, something could have fallen or come loose there too. Between the two points is just cables. But it could be only one. If it is only one, if they are the same age, probably a good idea to change both. Hope this helps!

And if you hang on a few days...maybe the original poster of the cable replacement will post up his repair!

You could also use uncle Cams non-patented pressure oil cable luber injector. I have yet to try it on the Yamaha (but will this spring) but it does wonders on emergency brake cables. Cam.

My post on changing out the throttle cables is in the tips section....not a lot different.

Lubing the cable ends is a twice a year service for me now. Just slide back the rubber boot, apply grease to the rod and slide boot back on then shift and repeat....same for steering rods, but turn wheel instead of shift.

I had my 06 sx230 freeze up. I looked behind helm and the canvas cover unsnapped and got caught in between. Might not be same but thought I would thro that at ya.
