scarab mike or anyone who may know do you have any suggestions? Boat starts and shuts off immediately. Damn dealer just replaced gauges and obviously didn't check their work. No error messages on dash, I have checked all fuses and connections. Pushed all reset buttons for ECU under rear seat and nothing. Just starts and shuts off. On vacation of course at a lake destination 4 hrs from home. We are at 4500 feet but I don't think that should matter with FI. It's as if the fuel pump isn't working. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Open the front driver side cubby from the flip up cushion, you should see a vinyl snap flap. Unsnap it, and check the connections. Make sure they are all snug.

If that doesn't work, open the engine hatch, and check all of the sensors, make sure they are seated and tight. Check the Mass air sensor next to the air filter. If none of that works, look at the fuse box next to the main battery. Make sure the grey connector is together. This is the ECU's data port. If its not in the holder, it will not see the resistor, and the boat will shut off.

Also, make sure you safety lanyard is in place next to the throttle, and make sure the throttle is in neutral.

@RFScarab Just guessing here but you may have a loose connection to your ignition switch. I'm sure they grab power for the ignition behind your panel as does Yamaha. The dealer may have knocked it loose. Let us know how you're doing.

Thanks guys I had already tried all of that other than inspecting the gray ECU connection but it it tight. Nothing else I can think of checking unless you have any further suggestions. Spent the rest of the day in a rented f'in paddle boat. I'm so upset I could scream.

D@mn autocorrect... Right, @bronze_10 ?

Ok, so thinking through a bit...

If the boat starts (that is, actually fires) and then stops, I would think that it should not be the lanyard or one of the safeties. Were it one of those, the boat would crank but not fire. Right?

And were it the fuel pump/system, it might fire a bit one time, but then it would not do so again. Right?

All that said, if they just worked on the gauges I would start there. They must have left off a terminator on a bus or switched something. That is my guess, FWIW.

Hate that this happened on your vacation! It was supposed to be relaxing! Good luck and keep us posted.

Possibly low battery power. Try jumping or swapping your truck battery.

Seems to me that there may be some sort of ECU flash process when swapping an instrument cluster. This is standard practice in the automotive field. This could be a similar thing.

When you eventually find out what happened to your boat can you please post results.
Sorry to hear you had a cappy weekend.

BTW why did the dealer replace your instrument cluster? ???

Ok, so I found out what your problem is. You cant just change the cluster on the boat. It has to be married to the ECU. The computer will crank the engine, but then lock it out when it sees the cluster isnt the one married to the computer. These dealers are killing the brand because of their lack of knowledge.

Here is a screenshot from the Candoo Pro.

@ScarabMike Seems Scarab needs to hire you so you can educate the dealerships. Glad to have you here. SCARAB, are you listening.

Um, I don't think they are. That is the problem...

@veedubtek Yes it will! I wish I was closer to him, and I would take care of it.

@Boat Crazy Thanks for the kind words man. I love this community, and wouldn't want to be anywhere else. As long as the new Scarab owners come here for help, that is all the motivation I need to keep trying my best. This forum has become the best source of information for new, and current Scarab owners. The more people come here with issues or questions, the more help we can provide.

Reading this thread regarding Scarab service reminds me of a quote I heard sometime ago, "Life is tough enough, but it is even tougher when your stupid!" @Boat Crazy you are right on the money regarding dealerships not having knowledge. My dealer here in Panama City doesn't even have a service department. They have send all of their boats (Scarab) to Pensacola. I waited a week for my boat to come back.

It's not just Scarab that has this issue. I just had my 2013 Silverado at the dealer for a problem with the climate control. The heat would not come on until I set it to 80 or above, I thought it would be simple and they would find the cabin sensor was bad. Nope, the tech. plugs in the analyzer and says there is nothing wrong, I asked him to show me what the sensor was reading but either he would not or could not. Service writer says, what do you want me to to do he says there is nothing wrong.
