Hello folks
Long time looker... had a mishap yesterday. Cruising the intracoastal yesterday a big wake came over the bow and flooded my boat. We quickly docked and the engine shut off on its own. Probably first mistake by not turning it off immediately. removed and changed the plugs, oil, and air filter. She starts and idle but when I rev it up it dies.
I opened the fuel tank compartment and had water in there, the plugin is in as you can see in the picture, shouldn't that plug be open? Al the time?
Any tips on why it quits when I rev it up?
Couldn't find the fuel filter... Wondering if it got wet...
Pics attached.

was your bilge pump on? if so, did it ever pump in any water ?
Did you open the engine hatch to see how much water was in there ?
Was the air filter that you changed wet ?

normally taking water over the bow, even submarining and soaking your boat isn't an issue (especially if you keep the engine running and under speed to help drain the water,

most members think if your boat is in the water your plugs should be in to separate compartments,

Taking a wave over the bow shouldn't be a problem. Did the boat "sink"....meaning was it a tsunami and had water up to the gunnels?

As Scott points out....many people Sub their boats all the time.....as you can see from this video...this guy subed his boat and then kept driving until he got the water off the deck.

I would get a bottle of the RED HEET and dump it in the fuel tank and let it set for a couple days and give her a try.

I'm going to hazard a guess that the water is unrelated to the intermittent running issue (unless he really did sink it). I suspect one of the following is his issue:
  • Clean out hatch unlocked or loose, or swtich misaligned
  • Safety lanyard not fully engaged (perhaps wet/shorting)
  • Key switch wet/shorting
  • possibly something else water related.....but that would be at the bottom the list (ok....is at the bottom of my list)

Will it run indefinitely if you just let it idle?

This is exactly how much water I had... I think my main mistake was not gunning right away to have the water pushed out the back...

Ok, so I let it idle for 20 minutes with water hooked up and then tried revving it, it seems to be working as it should now. I let it get warm to "burn" any water out...

Bilge worked great! Plus the wife and a bucket!
I did, water was not covering the engine but it was pretty hight up
Air filter was soaked! Changed to a brand new one

I am wondering how all the water get in the fuel tank area with now where to go...

After letting it idle for some time it revved... I'll put it down in a canal this week and test it out...

Also get some spray silicon and spray all the electrical connectors that you can locate to get any moisture out of them.

I would change your oil again, and then maybe one more time to make sure the oil is water free. If there is any white or milkiness to it, it is contaminated.
