If not Yamaha then what?

We’ll I chose to buy a Regal LS2 Surf that’s in stock at the local dealer now. I’ll pick it up next week. Smaller than I had been looking at but it’ll serve our needs well. Wifey approved as well. Here’s a link to the boat 2022 Regal LS2 Surf

So I and another buddy helped our good friend of many years break in his 2022 Harris Solstice 230. I would have to say, I loved just about everything about this boat. (For a 150hp powered pontoon) I would lean towards a tritoon with at least a 250)

The colors, layout and JL stereo were all amazing. It rode well, had plenty of power etc. But Harris is not a cheap brand either. For what he has into it, I would have expected the 250hp tritoon I would be interested in. This unit lists for just over $100k, but with discounts many will purchase for about 20% less. Putting it in the range of the 24/25' Yamaha boats. I don't think I would be happy with that. I'm glad I didn't research the boat until after our day on it. As it truly checked all the boxes other than motor. But for that price, I would pass on it for sure.

Pretty sure they are Manufactured by Bayliner. The reviews I have read have all been good. From what I can gather they are great wake boats, entry level price.

I think a thing to keep in mind is the current Heyday boats in comparison to the first couple generations they put out. They were very crude as far as seating, and were purpose built for a very small group of passengers. They were 4-5 person bathtubs that could cram on a ton of ballast. (purpose built)

The current lineup is a more traditional layout, for more capacity, but yet budget minded like the Bayliner brand.

Not to bash at all, as there is a market for every level of boat. And many are not in the 6-digit surf boat market.

Looks like they’re owned by Brunswick which also owns Bayliner, Sea Ray and a bunch of other brands. Not sure what that says, if anything, about the quality/reliability. Interesting to hear about their evolution as brand as pointed out by @biffdotorg. Certainly seem like a good value in that wake boat segment.

I love that brown/black color combo. Beautiful, but I agree on not paying that much for tritoon. Not disrespect to any that have/would. Just different strokes for different folks.

Agree 100% The color on the outside was black, and the interior was the Black/tan, with enough tan that it stayed cool

I would be leary of the fabric, as it was not vinyl and would stay wet, rather than repel water. And this was only a pontoon, only rated at 200hp. (so it performed ok with only 150hp) but a comparable tritoon would be even more. ouch.

Quality on the Heydays is terrible. If you're pissed about Yamaha QC you'd hate a heyday. Their electronics are less reliable and more troublesome than the connext system. The interior on pretty much every one of those boats is wrinkled really bad right off the showroom floor. Also plan to do an interior redo in a few years. I really wanted to like these boats as the price point was great. The H22 is a good looking boat, but well equipped is right about the price of an NXT22, Moomba Max, and pretty close to an ATX. Which are all better quality boats.

I know the market is insane for everything at the moment, but what historically has depreciation looked like on the Yamaha boats? Do they hold value well?

I’m a waverunner guy with no knowledge of the boat market, current or historically. I just bought a 2019 242se with 40 hours off a friend. I paid 50k, which I now understand is a good deal in the current market. I guess my question is, if the market returns to “normal”, how underwater am I? I know there’s no exact answer to my question, just curious.

It may be quite some time before "Normal" comes about again. Also with the increase in pricing these boats are getting year after year, it is keeping the values of used boats pretty high. It will be quite some time before you are under water.

So my friend came across North Star boats last night.. I thought this boat would be great, especially for the shoulder seasons and other adventures.. in a way it is the Yamaha of traditional boats, you get a lot of bang for the buck!
