Anyone else have the joy of picking up leaves in the fall?
I have an acre of oak trees!
I think it is kinda fun actually.
My kids run around, fire chief says we can burn in a pit, we are outside etc.
My fire pit is 20' round btw.20151111_162308.jpggot a third of the leaves up so far...

I live in the country on 3 acres, I burn the Pecan tree leaves after raking them up from the fenced in portion of the yard, I do burn vegetation and tree cuttings throughout the year.
Here I'm burning my old kitchen cabinets, and Formica counter top during my renovation in 2013.

We can't burn leaves here. My 11hp Briggs blower moves the piles into the woods.

Just had to move this 30 pounder when I got home.

Murf, what color do those change to in the fall?

Lol yeah, I don't think my sweeper is gonna pick that up.
Gotta say though, since having a zero turn I won't ever go back!

Yeah...I watch my neighbor across the lake mow his lot with a zero turn with envy! Next time I'll pay the premium for a hydrostatic zero turn.

Lol! Brown, green and yellow are the only colors you'll see here. I do miss the fall colors but not the leaf cleanup.

My neighbor (in our suburban house) has 4 massive trees and he lives just to the south of us. Every year in fall the winds are out of the south and all of his leaves end up in our back yard (along with some huge branches too). It's usually about 35 of those really big garbage bags later before my lawn is visible again.

We have tons of leaves....but blow them into the ravine behind the house. We had a huge Oak....but cut it down a few years ago....still have a few smaller ones....the acorns are a PITA!!!!

I have no idea why but I ha e no acorns. Tons of hazelnuts though!
What the sweeper doesn't grab I suck up with a shop vac.

Think leaves are bad , check out this. Don't know what the hell I was thinking when I planted all these damn fruit trees006.jpg

We are in a forest of oaks, primarily post oaks. So we have tons of leaves and this year acorns. I mow and mulch as much as my normal push mower with a mulching blade can handle and then I higher someone to come take care of the rest. I've tried burning them in a pit and it's a royal pain and it takes all weekend with the right conditions. There's usually too much wind and I don't always have the time, or want to spend the time to mess with it.

Did someone say leaves???

It's like we live in different countries. Here in ncal, at least in the burbs, most homes sit on 1/8 or 1/4 acre lots. Not many trees other than the ones the city owns and maintains, including the single tree that the city forces single family homeowners to keep in their front yards. Riding mowers and fire pits are as rare as snow plows around me. I don't Think I would do well in a leafy environments.

Incidentally, my friend who is also an attorney recently started to pay to have the leaves off of his trees cleaned off of his neighbors property. She is a little old lady that can't/won't do it herself. According to my buddy and consistent with
The neighbor laws I am familiar with, a tree's owner is responsible for any damage its leaves may cause . My buddy is worried that his leaves will clog his neighbors pool pump and cost him some big bucks. He is also concerned that they could block her homes gutters so he has his gardener sweep his neighbors pool and clean out her gutters regularly and only after getting permission from her first. she thinks he is just being a good neighbor as he has her Lawn moved as well but it is mostly just cya. His long term solution is to relandscape his property to get rid of the trees.

That is nuts! So glad I don't live in California! Leaves are a natural part of living...we should be writing laws to encourage tree planting, not encouraging clear cutting them! But to say you are responsible for the damage leaves from trees on your property might causes...that is some crazy shit!

Lol leaves causing damage?
When things are just coated brown from leaves is that damage? Believe me, the pool pump has a siphon that works great at getting the leaves out. I have to check mine every day after work or I may have an issue but it's a quick lift and dump. Takes 2 seconds.
Gutter guards might as well be a standard issue in my area and a leaf blower is much more useful than a rake. I use a sweeper and most my neighbors have those dog house things that suck them up.
