IMG_5255.jpegAfter uncovering my boat a few weekends ago, the two seats in the back had white spots on them (As shown above). This happened in the front too. Does anyone have any idea what this is or how to get it off? If I soak that part of the seat in UV protecter and moisturizer than it seems to fade away, but it seems to keep coming back in a few weeks time. What should I do? My boat is brand new this season, so I don’t understand a reason that this would happen. The black part of the seat is more of a textured material, while the white is more of a leather type material (just incase this makes a difference)

Wtf, white vinyl gets dark spots and dark vinylgets white spots! Why can't it just work out once?

I know on my boat that light spots on my seats came from people with freshly applied sun screen....which on a boat....well duh....it going to happen. Vinyl Hot sauce from boat bling does reduce, but not eliminate it.

I had that stuff twice on mine and it came from different places. One was a residue that came from the liner of an older boat cover I was using for a while. This came off fairly easily with vinyl sauce, many times with just a hose down.

The other was a residue from simple green cleaner that I was using on a recommendation. Left white spots that would not get clean. Was really frustrating because I would clean it and it would look like it was gone, but then when dry would reappear. The green vinyl sauce finally did remove it.

White spots on our vinyl are always a result of sunscreen as Julien pointed out. I’ve found Rejuvenate Marine Leather & Vinyl Cleaner to be effective in removing it without being overly harsh. Sunscreen has a weird characteristic in that the spots disappear when wet, but turn white again after drying out. The textured vinyl may need a soft brush to work in the cleaning product. I follow up with a light application of 303 Aerospace Protectant.

My boat has that same discoloration on the gray textured part on top of both captains seats. I bought the boat with 12 hours and they were already there.

It looks like it’s where the boat cover contacts them so I assumed it’s related to that, maybe with the heat or friction or something.

I’ve not found any way to remove it.
