Hey Folks,

About 120 hours of freshwater use only. It sits on Lake Champlain for 3 months each year and this season will be #5. Anyone else have their hardware looking like this? The actual finish seems to be flaking off. What can I do. Power washing doesnt seem to do too much.

I have it too. It’s from electrolysis from my marina. I’m in the process of getting a lift. You’ll probably have to sand it off.

How are your zinks? The zinks should take the brunt of electrolysis. Are you in a slip with power? If so I would check to see if their power is leaking to ground, which, in this case ground is the water. You can check this with a volt meter. Send us a pic of your zinks if you can.

Here they are. They feel sandy too. Are they done?

thats weird... your zinc isnt too bad. they will basically dissolve away completely but dont seem to be helping much. ive seen people put zinc anodes in the water off their finger pier when i was living on a boat as a child but im not sure if it really helped. talk to the marina your at. they may help track down the offender

You should be using magnesium anodes in fresh water, not zinc.

Your zinks look fine. I overlooked the fact that you're in fresh water so @Julian makes a good point about using magnesium. You didn't mention it you're at a dock or slip with power. Again you can easily check for stray voltage in the water with a volt meter.

Someone on YouTube sprayed chain wax on his metal parts forget how long he said it lasts though. Couldn't hurt though.

I haven’t been able to find Yamaha magnesium anodes. Someone on here modified some from another application a while back.
