Looking for some advice and direction if possible.

I am going to mount things in the boat now. Such as the Fire Extinguishers, a shelf, and Hangar Bracket for my Standard Horizon Handheld VHF Portable. What type of screws should I use? I would like to head upto the Hardware store and grab a good selection of what I need so I have them in stock for boat projects. Screwing into the dash as well as the gelcoat inside the boat in areas for hangers and such. I do have 2 tubes of 5200 that I bought last week to seal things up if needed.

Any knowledge would be very helpful.

I typically use the appropriate sized pan head self taping course thread screw. Flat head counter sunk if I need the screw head flush to the surface and not protruding.

But be careful and know what is behind what you are screwing into.....

@Julian has the screw selection covered. I would add...choose your adhesive for what you are mounting and where. 3M 5200 is a great permanent sealant. But if you think you will ever need to replace a bedded part, 4200, 4000UV or the Boatlife products are easier to remove if you need to. Also, countersink your drill holes, just thru the gelcoat, it will help prevent spider cracks from developing.

There is a saying going around the boatyard..."Friends don't let friends use 5200". ;)

Was going to chime in with the same advice. There are few reasons to use 5200, and for the projects described here, none require it.
