Made what my kids call “fancy popcorn” outside. Popping oil and kernels.

Seems like ya’ll just splashed her! Florida is calling you guys!!

Yup, we were actively looking at lots in Punta Gorda prior to Ian. We were looking at areas 20mins from Burnt Store Marina. Living where we currently do at 1000' above sea level has made us consider higher ground than 15' above sea level.

Beautiful weekend in the woods. Pulling firewood from the hillside below the view from the house.

So we can see more of these.

When we purchased our lot, we looked at the topographical maps, the flood risk maps (you can have flooding in areas way above sea level) and the national transportation noise map (didn't want to be on any airport flight paths). In the end, we purchased a lot 10 minutes from the water and 35 minutes from the beach. Aside from very minimal risk of flooding, we ended up with a much larger lot for the money.

The WWII camouflage paint schemes are unique. Interestingly, I watch a couple of YouTube videos yesterday of a guy doing the Great Loop in a 22' C-Dory. When he was in Albany, NY, getting ready to enter the Erie Canal, he was docked in a marina across the river from the USS Slater, a WWII destroyer with a similar paint scheme. He says he didn't even notice the ship until his second day at the marina! Here's his video (0:45 - 2:20)

Gave my daughter away yesterday. The other pic is both daughters, bride and maid of honor with the groom. I’m waiting for the professional pics from photographer for pics of her and I. Can’t wait to see them. What a magnificent day. DC004B90-60C4-4912-98F6-20724D4D3292.jpegAFEDA362-9F41-4319-A7C6-E1CE49994B76.jpeg2091AAC9-4B58-4836-8416-DC715D3FFD92.jpeg

Just make sure you build or buy a place that the finished floor is at the sufficient level.

Agree. But it became evident that elevation is not the only concern. My parents have a townhouse in Englewood. Garage level, 1st floor, 2nd floor. They did not get flooded from the storm surge as they were on the northern edge of the eyewall as it came ashore. The wind pushed so hard against the sliding glass doors that they unlocked and opened the doors, 2nd and 3rd level. Wind driven water made ingress and they will need to replace all the ceiling drywall as well as some of the walls before they can move in. They go back down in a week and may be staying at an aunts house 30 mins North, while repairs are completed. I don't even know how his two boats made out yet, a 22' cc Scout and a 17' Maverick skinny water flats boat.

Yeah...gotta have storm rated sliders unless you panel them before the storm. Even with some wind rated sliders the wind forces water under the door and the track fills up and flows into the house if the wind is constant for too long. But this is a one in a lifetime storm at our ages ;)

Taking a break to rehydrate. Been operating an old manual splitter working my way thru 10 cords. Love swinging this Fiskars splitting axe for the last 10years, a good Fall workout. I used to break a splitting maul or two every year. Even with a few knicks in the handle, from the chainsaw, seen at the label, this thing is the bomb. I should use the hydraulic splitter but space is limited under the roof. I don’t like handling the wood more than necessary, though it is faster. Dogs wanting me to throw sticks. 5 cords to go.

My new / used car (2012 Lexus IS 350 hard top convertible V6, 306 HP that my wife handed down to me) with a few upgrades/mods. Specifically, a windscreen for the back seat, front seat covers and painted brake calipers.

One of the older top gear episodes did a review of the rear windscreen with and without on 2 seater convertible cars. What a difference it made at high speeds.

Thanks for letting me know, I took it out for a spin after I installed it but I was alone, it was cold, dark and late so I could not tell if it made a difference at all.
