lake weekend and surfing with 242 x and one engine starts not reving up. Maybe hit 6000rpm. Thought maybe sucked something up but all looks good. Any ideas. Only thing I noticed is gate one gate full open and other 1/4 closed tell you turn key on. Neutral. ??

@Julian 242x is your baby. Any ideas for this gentleman's [USERGROUP=9]@HELP[/USERGROUP].

My only suggestion is to ensure the plugs are in tight.

@Brad Dunn - make sure you use the [USERGROUP=9]@HELP[/USERGROUP] in the text body to get more responses.

Good luck bud.

Check your oil level. My X eats oul and goes into limp mode on occasion

Typical rpm loss cause is a fouled spark plug(s) - how many hours on it?
The random drive gate orientation when powering up or down seems to be an e-series feature...

ours did this when the jet pump was clogged up with lots of debris, which meant that it was not cooling the engine properly. after we cleared the clog the engine began to cool properly and it began to function normally.

I’m going to put new plugs in and see if that’s it. Thanks

Would you say this is also the case with 1.8s? The MR-1s are famous for being finicky about plugs, new plugs seem to cure an array of issues there. Wasn't that much about 1.8s, I would love to know. I change the plugs every ~50hrs with o/f.
(and I would feel so much better about it if there actually was a reason for doing it!) lol

The following thoughts come to mind for me:

  1. Thread on engine air starvation.... Are the blowers running?
  2. Battery charging.
  3. Spark plugs
  4. Air filter clogged (oil over fill?)
  5. Low oil
One and 2 make less sense as you'd think one engine wouldnt do this... But the air starve was talking about one side....

Well put new plugs in and boat was good. Pulled a tube for an hour. Then issue came back. One engine will only rev 5500 6000. Not sure if it is a heat issue. No engine light. Will try this morning and see after sitting all night if it cured it self. If not new plugs again but why?

Did you check the oil level? I would almost pull the strainer on the side and see if there is anything on there. Also do a flush on the land with a higher pressure garden hose.

Went out this morning and same issue hiccups and won’t rev right. Did a couple runs and cleaned up. Almost like a fouled plug. Checked oil yesterday but will again. If I take it out of water I’ll give a good flush. We pulled in a bunch of weeds. Put that was after our issue. Cleaned it up but check engine still on.

update used boat for 2 hrs yesterday and worked great besides fussy port engine start ups while surfing. not really sure what was up or if it will come back? thanks everyone for the ideas and feed back

I assume the issue is on the same engine. I ask because bad fuel can also cause issues like you describe but then it impact both engines. I had issues with the plugs and changed them every season. When you changed the plugs did you notice the condition of the old ones? If one looked fouled you could check that one again and see how it looks. Also, did you check the gap to make sure they were set right pon the new ones? Just some thoughts.
