Sturgeon Fish

Is anyone familiar with the Sturgeon fish? This has been the worst year so far on the Suwannee River. Friday on the Santa Fe river 2 people were severely injured when a sturgeon took out the port side windshield and side glass on a 21ft Bayliner. On Thursday evening a 5 yr old girl was killed and her 6 yr old brother and mother were injured and air lifted to Gainesville. This incident occurred on the Suwannee river in Gilchrest county.

I saw that too.....insane monster fish.

I remember when I lived in north cali growing up, people were using jeep winches to pull monster sturgeon out of the Sacramento river.

Wow....didnt even know they had them in Florida...thought it was more of a cold water fish....

Thats odd. In my area the sturgeon stay in 200' of water and you never see them. The do cruise the rivers but again stay very deep. I just watched the video and I didn't even know they jumped. Cam.

About 8 years ago they entered the Suwannee river, Yesterday was the first reported sightings in the Santa Fe river. Florida Fish and Game is urging boaters to not permit anyone in the bow underway.

Growing up in northern MN I've seen large sturgeon jump. I was told it helps clear mud out of their gills. It seemed like a fairly rare occurrence. There was also a lot less boat traffic up there.
