I just upgraded my 2018 SX 195 with the dual battery set up, Polk four channel amplifier, and a wet sounds AS -8 subwoofer. I’ve got more than Knouff power now for the stock Polk speakers and they don’t seem to be handling the power very well. Any suggestions on good upgrade speakers that I won’t have to do any modifications to install?

Most look at either Polks (first price point), or JLs as the 2nd price point.

I have the dual batteries, amp and JL tower speakers on my ArR195 and it cranks, blow your ear drums out loud. The stock 4 Polks sound amazing IMO, which is odd because I thought they were the same as the SX195 speakers. Are you running the stock speakers off the amp or the headunit? I think my amp is just powering my tower speakers and head unit the stock 4 boat speakers. maybe you have them over powered? is that possible?

I am no expert but I believe those Polk DBs (651?) have the exact same RMS power handling ratings as the JL MX650 or Wet Sounds XS-650 speakers.

I've had several Polk DB651s in two boats now run for several years with zero issues (if one does not count loose speaker connections - which I just solder).

These DBs sound fantastic and can be VERY loud, when properly powered, and IMO are musically superior to (for example) 8" Wet Sounds ICON8s (which are way more expensive) and also virtually any HLCD speaker I've ever heard... In fact, as much as I tried to justify "upgrading" the DBs - I've simply failed to do so.

(And - when it comes to boat mods and upgrades - I can be pretty creative, LOL)

My friend helped me install some JL Audio MX650's and a JL Audio 600/6 Amp.
When we first turned it on, it sounded kinda bad and I was disappointed.
He then made some adjustments to the amp, and it sounded great.
I had no idea you had to make adjustments to the amp, but it made a huge difference. Did you try adjusting the amp? Unfortunately, I am clueless in that area and it's why I had help.

So I tried something to see the difference in the Polk DB652’s and the Polk MM652. I replaced the rear left speaker with an MM652 And kept the right rear speaker the stock DB 652. Then I faded it all the way to rear and tried panning from left to right to see if there’s a difference... What an improvement!!! The MM 652’s sounds way better. Crisp and clean highs and a much better low-end. Then I replaced the other side with an MM 652 in faded from the front to the back to see the difference between the stock DB 652‘s in the front and the MM 652‘s in the back. After doing that now I see there’s a reason why the MM 652’s run $150 a pair versus the DB 652’s being $60 a pair. It almost seems like the D4000.4 Polk amp I’m running was made to power the MM 652’s!

It’s a BEP 720 HEAVY DUTY BATTERY SWITCH. It fits the same mount as the factory switch. You can find it on Amazon. The other thing you’ll need is the battery cables which I have attached a screenshot from Amazon. The next thing is a battery tray. I used a Attwood group 24 battery tray which you can find on Amazon. The last thing would be a battery. I purchased an interstate group 24 deep cycle marine battery at Costco for $75.00. I ran with this set up all summer long and you’re able to switch between the house battery and your starting battery and then when you’re running the boat you put it into both and then you’re charging both batteries back up.
