Decided I really needed to get a flag and holder for the tower for Memorial Day weekend. Went on Amazon, and bought hastily the ones I thought looked the nicest and fit the budget. Should've read more reviews.

That thing came in yesterday. It's about worthless as a flag holder. It looks like it might fit the tower, and is a nice polish aluminum finish. There are ZERO features to hold the flag in the...well...holder.... It is supposed to just sit there? I don't get it, and will be sending it back as it obviously won't work without further modification.

The flag on the other hand, very nice unit from SeaSense. I'll probably just zip-tie in place until I can get a proper holder.

Anyone have a reccomendation on a good flag hold to mount on the tower of a '17 AR190?

That looks like a direct knock-off of the AirHead holder, but polished instead of brushed. If you buy this flag , its got a spongy bottom that holds inside the holder pretty well. I ended up drilling/tapping a hole in mine so I could add a set screw to further secure the flag, but it seemed like it would hold just fine without. You can see the foam base and set screw I added here:

My writeup is here, picked up 2 of those flags, one for watersports, and modified another to fly traditional flags.

Good grief I seriously have to research more before I buy stuff online. Was about to pull the trigger on an Airhead unit as well. Glad I posted here first. Thanks for the info.

Guess I might just keep the one I have and drill/tap a hole for flag retention. It looks like a nice unit otherwise, just no way to hold the flag. I'll probably 3D print a sleeve to go in there as well like you did to keep it from walking around on me.

I mean no disrespect when I ask this, what features would you like out of a flag holder? That holder will hold a flag pole, no?

@seanmclean nice job on picking the Taylor Made Products flag. Great quality and made in the USA . Mine still looks great and shows no signs of wear. Yes I'm still using zip ties :D

The biggest and most glaring feature missing is some method of actually holding the flag in place. Underway there is nothing to keep the flag where you put it, and unless gravity suddenly gets strong a good updraft (or sudden change in boat attitude) will lift it right out.

It needs a set screw, or locking ring, or something to actually keep the flag in the holder. The rest of the unit looks fine.

Yep, they're solid flags. This is my second season on this one (also got a thin blue line version). Nice fabric, stitched stars.

That's how I've seen a lot of the flag holders. Just make something to hold the pole somewhat snug and then use a set screw like he did. Should work out fine.

@2kwik4u , the flag holder you bought looks a lot like the one I have. Mine works just fine. Whether the flag sits in the holder loosely or tightly depends on the thickness of the handle. I only use it to hold rider down/warning flags and often forget to take them down while under way. Most of the time the flag stays securely in place, some times the mount tilts but I’ve never had a flag fall out of it. I have two similar holder that at tube only, no mount to the tower so they were only $10 each. I just zip tied them to the bimini poles.

I think you may looking for a more permanent flag holder. There are a few members here who fly different flags constantly with varying mounting systems. Hopefully some of them chime in.

Those flags stay in the holder very well, Even with 2 flags on the pole.

You can see it here:

OK, so I got it mounted. I'm not 100% sure I like it, but its enough to give it a try tomorrow.

Had to "pad" the flagpole to get it to remain stationary in the holder. I think it will be tight enough to hold it while underway. Won't be doing any top speed runs with it up, but hopefully can run 30mph with it up and not hurt it. Guess I'll find out tomorrow.

The rubber gasketing they give you to adapt to "off sized" tower tube diameters was either too big or too small for either of the tubes on the factory tower. Also a fun fact. The "rear" bar is a different diameter than the "front" bar on this tower. I had to use just partial pieces of each piece of rubber to get the thing to actually fit. Not the end of the world, but again a small compromise.

Here's the mount the the flag pole installed. This particular pole extended another 24" up, so I'll have to get a picture of it up with the flag on it while on the water. I've got high ceilings in the garage, but clearly not high enough :D

Also had to confirm that the tower folded with the mount attached. It actually fit pretty decent in this regard. Tucks right inside the windshield and misses everything.

These flag holders are designed to hole water sports flags that have a foam end on the pole that stick nicely in the holder. If you want to use a non-foam covered pole, you'll need to adapt the bottom of the pole, or add a set screw.

Rubber around the base of the pole held it in place just fine. Had on water speeds up to about 37mph or so.

Looks a little goofy as it's the only thing clamped to the tower at this point, but otherwise I'm gonna call it a win.

what size flags are those?

The flag is from Taylor Made Products and they're made in the USA. Very nice quality and still holding up with no edges or seams coming undone. I believe mine is their 12"x18" even though it measures closer to 13"x19". I got mine from Amazon.

I like how you have it mounted with zip ties to the bimini. I have a 12"x18" flag and it doesn't appear to fit (too big) for my bimini on my 2018 AR190. I assume you just wrap the flag up where it is when you put up the bimini? I am going to have to check again. I like the simplicity and ease of keeping the flag permanently mounted.

For the longest I just cut zip ties and removed the flags after boating for the day. Later on I used re-usable zip ties so I wouldn't have to cut them each time. That rear pole has to retract when you want to fold the bimini so I didn't want the flag to be folded awkward or get any weird lines wrapped up in it, so I just removed them to be safe and keep them clean.

For flags and flag holder check out these guys. There stuff is top notch. Watch their videos where they show how they're better than the competition. I've purchased 2 flag holders and 3 flags. There products are rated to 50 mph!!!

Do you remember...6" ties? I can't seem to find anything smaller...still seems too big to me.
