I am a proponent of using new plugs if you remove the old ones without new washers. But you will hear guys say, "it's ok, I do it all the time". You know, since you know that they are a "single use crushable washer/gasket", that using them a second time may allow compression leaks, water ingestion, or cause overtorquing when reinstalling. But at least the 1.8L, LFR6A is not prone to breaking, so if you just hand tighten and then turn 1/4 to 1/2 turn with the ratchet and with anti-seize on the threads, you will probably be alright. But I wouldn't be advising anyone to do it, it is just too cheap to replace them and get a full year out of them following. Just my opinion on it. Good luck on the pump pull!

thanks @txav8r thats kind of the answer I was looking for but just wanted to make sure I wouldn't royally screw something up if worst came to worst. Lets just hope nothing in this pump is stuck after 5 years of being put together!

@GiddYupJoe

Sorry to hear this happened! I was in the lake on the opposite channel last weekend. Wish I knew you were there, I would have helped any way I could.

Do you need plugs tomorrow? If so, I have some on my boat. I can tell you where it is and where I keep them. Please take those as I feel it would be better than trying to replace the old ones.

Let me know if you want them and I'll PM you my slip number.

Dont pull the spark plugs. The pump comes out quickly. @Backwash and I pulled and reinstalled his in perhaps 20 minutes. I was nervous when I pulled mine as I had never done it before. I had it off in less than 10 minutes but I left it disassembled for several days while I found the grease and thread sealant substitutes.

Thanks @cbus hopefully I don't need to but if I do I will let you know. We have a whole birthday weekend planned up at the treehouse all weekend starting tomorrow. Hope all goes well. I'm sure it will. It's my birthday... Not going to let a golf ball ruin it! Look me up on Saturday if you are up at the lake. Headed out early Sunday morning. Cheers.

@Bruce I picked up some gasket maker, did you happen to use that when you put the pump back on? Sure it won't hurt but have not heard much about it.

I used a little bit of life caulk on mine.

I did not use anything and there was no sign of any gasket having been on @backwashes.

Happy early Birthday!

I will be there Saturday. I will look for you. Please let me know about the plugs. I keep an extra set on the boat so no biggie.

Wish I had knowledge of your situation but I don't. If your not up and running, I can try to get my keys to you so you can use mine on Friday. I will be up Saturday around 11. Let me know how I can help.

Update...!!! 1 hour flat back on the water. Thanks for all the help, wouldn't have been able to do it with out this forum.

First off it was a fuc@ing FLOATABLE golf ball that forgot how to swim.

image.jpg

Had to use pliers to get it out of the impeller it was stuck solid. Oh and I did all this in the stake dock parking lot in a downpour!

image.jpg

image.jpg

And sucked fully back on the water in the same channel I sucked the dang ball up in. Oh. And it's still pouring down rain. On the way to the cabin!

Glad you got it out!!! Are you sure it wasn't floating? Would make more sense that it was....much more likely to get sucked in that way!!!! Might want to keep your eyes peeled for more of those suckers!

Glad its worked out and your back underway. This was another great subject to track and learn.

I've added thread sealant and the moly 60 grease to my amazon boat maintenance wish list. Kind of a knowledge storage bank of mine

IMO, if you are a jet boat owner, and you own the boat long enough, your among two types of owners, those that have and those that will...in terms of pump removal. So learning this trick is how the dealer clears pump ingestion...they don't have time to fool with it, they pull the pump, clear it, and put it back together, provided it isn't obvious. These discussions and opinions are priceless!
