Hi,

I'm new to this site and world of Jet Boats. I did own a 17' Bayliner back in early 2000 but I'm sure this Jet Boat is much better than what I'm used to.

I need some advice from some that may have gone through similar process.

I just purchased 2013 212x boat with < 20 hours from eBay. Based on my research of looking at these boats it seems like a very good deal.

Questions on purchase:
1. Seller said he has the title for boat and trailer. How do you make sure there isn't any outstanding loan on this boat or is that something I should even be concerned with?

2. eBay stated my purchase is covered by their $50,000 Vehicle Purchase Protection. So I'm assuming I can relax and send the payment via cashier's check as buyer is requesting. Is there any scenario where my purchase wouldn't be covered?

3. Is there any document or manuals I should request from the seller? Does he need to transfer the warranty with Yamaha? Considering it's 2013 I'm assuming there may be still some warranty left.

However this boat is located in CA and I'm in MN so I need to get this shipped. Obvious option that comes to mind is uShip.

Questions on shipping:
1. Seller has the boat sitting in his storage unit with tower disassembled/folded down. Would the best option to ship this with tower and wakeboard rack reinstalled? Should I ask him to reassemble it securely?

http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/z/ib8AAOSwv0tVgLv7/$_57.JPG

2. Shipping will be approximately 2,000 miles on the trailer. Will there be any cause for worrying considering the distance? I'm assuming uShip guy will just trailer the boat. Trailer looks to be in decent shape and has spare tire.

http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/z/fcMAAOSwk0pVgLuO/$_57.JPG

3. Seller said it comes with shipping cover. Is there any other ways to prep the boat to ensure it has safe and damage free 2,000 mile journey?

Thank you in advance for any advice and I'm looking forward to fun filled ownership experience with Yamaha 212x.

So you haven't seen the boat in person?
Proceed with caution is all I can say and look into that Buyer Protection....I think you have to go through PayPal, but I'm not sure.
2000 miles isn't much in the grand scheme of things....I would suggest you confirm if it will be towed or on a flat bed and maybe talk to the driver if you can.
Good luck.

I have not read through any of your links @dansshin . I can tell you that I am much too old school to trust buying a boat sight unseen without some knowledge of who is selling it. This whole deal has liability issues. Most of us wouldn't trailer our boats without going over the trailer completely for even a 100 mile trip, let alone 2000 miles. The 212X is a great boat, and I am hoping the one you have purchased is everything it was said to be. Forgive me that I am not as comfortable with the modern age of click and buy. I buy on ebay and craiglist as well as amazon routinely, but not a boat without more info.

Reminds me of my 32 YO married kid, making offers on houses and paying inspectors only to back out on details he should have found out before making offers. I would want the manuals and complete service history, and want to review it as well as a pre purchase inspection as well as a sea trial. Without some of that, the price gets cheaper. Do a title search before paying for it. I hope it all is what you thought you were getting! Welcome to the forum, just wish you would ask these questions before instead of after the fact!

Um, there is no such thing as a 212x.

We have had reports of this boat advertised for $10k. I think we have all agreed it is very, very likely a scam. Please proceed with extreme caution.

Oops. I sit corrected. For 2013 there is a 212x.

Still, it matches exactly what we were talking about on another thread.

I am not sure if the boat in the pics is a "2013" 212X Thats the boat I have. Reason I am saying this is that the tower is silver. As far as I know all the towers on the 2013 212X's were BLACK NOT SILVER

There has been a 212X since 2008 I think. They stopped one year, 2011? @tdonoughue , yes it does bring up the same scam concerns.

I would be hesitant to buy something like this without seeing it myself, test ride and an inspection. The potential hassles if there are issues may not be worth it.

If the owner has the title to the boat and trailer, there shouldn't be a loan on the boat. I say shouldn't. If you have a loan on a boat and trailer, you are supposed to give the titles to the loan company. When you pay off the loan, you are given the title, just like buying a car and paying off the car loan. I agree with a couple of the above posts and not buy this boat without looking at it. No matter what EBay says, you will end up with a big hassle trying to prove you got a POS boat. I'd want to take a test drive on the boat, which a legit seller should do and at least make sure it runs. There are a lot of places to shop for a boat the might be better. Boat trader is one place or try a dealer near you. You may not get such a great price as what's on EBay with a dealer, but you will know what you are getting is legit. I bought a year old boat from a dealer. I may have paid a little more than if I bought if from someone but I new I had a place to go back to if I had issues.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with whatever you decide.

I agree with the concerns - but if you're able to take that risk and are aware of the worse-case-scenario, then that's your call.

Having said that, is there a forum member near where the boat is located? Perhaps you could get a little help from one of the other guys?? Just a thought.

Biggest rule of buying any boat, including a brand new one, is always always always wet test before you buy. Just sayin....

I would contact EBAY about the protection they offer. And get it in writing.
I would ship it on a flatbed if you can, with the tower assembled, or carefully wrapped and not rubbing on anything!
If you ship it on the trailer, I'd be very concerned about the brakes over heating when coming down this side of the rockies. So if you ship it trailered, make sure it is with someone with a BIG F'ing truck, and have them lockout the trailer brakes when going down steep grades. Otherwise he might fry the hubs.
I sold my last boat on Ebay, and had no issues, but the buyer looked it over before handing over CASH and had the titles in hand. I assume EBAY will act as an Escrow agent, if not get one. This article might be of great help to you:

http://www.edmunds.com/car-buying/buying-a-car-sight-unseen.html

Also, as @geiger41 says if you can tell us where the boat is more specifically, we might have a member that would volunteer, or for a small fee, go check the boat out for you. You never know....I would for a boat here in Raleigh.

Thanks guys for the caution and words of wisdom. I talked to the owner for few minutes on the phone and he seems to be very nice and trust worthy person and offered to help with shipping any way he can. He apparently has two boats, one for Sea and this for fresh water. Reason he said he was selling is because they enjoy going out fishing to the sea more and have not used the fresh water boat. I'd like to think I'm usually cautious person and I do feel good with the seller's honesty and integrity. He told me to make me feel more safe and comfortable with the transaction he would accept paypal for the whole amount even though it means he would be getting less on the sale. He said his trailer hasn't been used much because storage is only 5 miles from the lake he goes to and based on the picture it looks to be true.

Below is the link to the ebay auction if anyone wants to see more pictures and point out any thing that may not make sense with the story.

On another note my first uShip bid came in at $3000 for "Tow-Away service"! Wow! I'm thinking for that I may just drive out there my self and stop by Yellowstone on the way with the kids! I'm hoping shipping fee goes much lower...

@txav8r - How do you do a title search? What information do I need from the seller and where do I do the search?

Thank you all.

Ever watch "Shipping Wars"? Maybe Jarod will bid it for $300 -- it will go through hell on the way to your place, but it will be cheap. o_O Just kidding ... I hope it all works out for you.
