I thought you were going to talk about surfing it,

this is what they do in the Houston ship channel, I'm glad I didn't know about it when I was 16 or I'd have been there everyday!

That captain really should be fired. Out of a cannon.

I would be beyond angry... How does this even happen? Anyone have a link to the story?
That cruise ship line is definitely going to be paying some hefty insurance claims...

That dock appears to be 100% floating and not riding on pilings. Maybe due to the water depth? Any dock that's in a major shipping channel needs to be way stronger that that deck of cards! I see 75/25 split on the fault.

responsible for own wake? time to pay up

That article said that damages were estimated at $280k. Imho that estimate seems a few million $ low.
that could have been damage to just the boats and I agree. Just the docks are going to cost a ton.

That is not a big port....it looked to me like the ship's stern was swinging around to fast and they just powered their way out..... look at the google map of the port and you can imagine what the largest 1000 foot Carnival cruise ship would look like in there!

Imagine one of these in that port:

No way that thing would hold a ship that large. Article said the ship was leaving a nearby port and started to drift towards the small marina. Cruise ship had to gun the engines to avoid hitting it but in hindsight they probably did about the same damage as if he was to hit it anyways :D

Then they would be looking at all the gel coat repair threads here :)
