The membership makes these decisions, not any of us. If the poll here was 90%+ in favor of a political forum at this time, that would be where it went. I don't think any of us are scared of it, we are attempting to let a democracy provide direction here. If the consensus changes, we will make the changes to reflect membership desires.

There may never be a more fitting post than this. It has been expressed by all those concerned enough to express an opinion that these topics not be included on this forum. As Mel said, it was a decision made by the members, not the Administrators. Change the vote and you will likely see a change in policy.
