So I've been wanting these guides since I bought the boat to load easier in the river current and see the trailer when I am backing up. Finally buy them and realize, how am I gonna make this work? I don't really want to drill holes in the trailer but it looks like that's the only option. I guess this isn't happening today, I've got boating to do.
Even drilling I'm going to have to get creative. The cross member on the trailer is curved and at the same height as the inside of the step where they meet.
I figured out a way to install these as was suggested above without drilling. Below the step and bolted to the cross member. I can't get the guide as close as I want it but it did do the job today...
...Mostly.
Ran into my daughter's gym teacher on pick up who was about three sheets to the wind and he decided to help me get the boat back on the trailer. His method was to put the dock line on the other side of one of my guides and use it as leverage. I could hear my rub rail scraping on the guide as he did it but not much I could do at that point. When I got home I realized that the guide was crooked and this has loosened the bolts somehow even though I used a drill and deep well socket. I guess I will really have to ratchet these damned things down good.
I still need to figure out how to wire the lighted caps but that'll have to wait until I have some decent connectors. The ones that came with the lights are garbage. I'm also not a fan of the way they tell you to route the wiring. Lots of sharp edges to cut the line and this is going to be a real pain in the ass when it needs to be rewired, fishing the line down the PVC.
